    Hiya,

The glass panel on my iPhone 3gs shattered last night! The phone still works but eventually it wont!

Is there somewhere that replaces the glass panel that I could go to! I don't think I insured the phone at time of purchase!

    Thanks!

These guys: http://fonemenders.ie/ Are very good. Used them before when they repaired my phone for free, was quoted €200+ around the corner. They also use genuine parts which is very important. Don't get it done for cheap as official Apple glass is much better.

Or you can buy 3rd party glass and do it yourself.

How did you get it done for free?I was looking for somethnig loke this aswell

Its was free as it was a known defect in a Nokia N97. As regards iPhone, I know cracked rear panels on 3GS's are known defects and are sometimes free to replace. They can do warranty repairs (Not 100% about Apple stuff) so thats why sometimes it free.

As I said be sure to get genuine glass if at all possible. It might cost €10 more but its worth it.

FoneMenders will give you a estimate anyway so its worth it.

Im trying to get my wi-fi fixed and emailed them there, guess thats not going to be free.Do you know if they replace battery's?

I don't think FoneMenders are certified by Apple, so anything you get done will void your warranty(on any other things that may go wrong afterwards).

If you already have the phone a few years and don't care about the warranty, just search for the cheapest place to get it done. Somehow I doubt Apple sell their exact glass to 3rd party repair shops.

PS, they hadn't a clue about the difference between an LCD and OLED which I needed fixed(under Nokia wannanty) which is pretty poor these days. (not that MPRC.ie were much better)

If your handy with a screw driver or know someone that is, the parts and tools can be purchased online via ebay in a set.

You can even buy apple parts so at least you know everything will be legit. Just done it meself this weekend on my own 3GS. Not that much hassle at all.

I got mine fixed in compuworld in dun laoghaire, they can do it within an hour and it's €59. It does void the warranty I assume, so something to consider. Apple charge €211 to repair it though.

Phone Guy Burrin Street in carlow repaired mine € 60 no problems.

Very hard to buy real Apple parts. Infact I'm almost sure you can't as Apple don't sell them on.

    +1.

That said, you can get a replacement set ( glass / digtizer and required tools ) for about 30 quid IIRC on Ebay and the quality of the parts are good. Replacement is relatively easy if you are anyway handy. Plenty of instructional videos on the net. Should take you about 40 mins.

Thanks for the responses guys! Just having a quick browse on ebay!

Is this what I would need?

    Thanks

I would suggest something like this or similar that includes the midframe.

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/iphone-3GS-Digitizer-Glass-Touch-screen-Mid-frame-/250753875758?pt=UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL&hash=item3a62187f2e#ht_2417wt_1141

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/iPhone-3GS-Digitizer-Mid-Frame-Button-Assembly-/260727070359?pt=UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL&hash=item3cb48b5e97#ht_2658wt_907

This kit includes midframe which means you wont have to go to the hassle of trying to get your glass off yours and at the same time trying to keep it in one piece.

Also have a quick look on youtube for a vid of how to do it before you order anything. Just so you know what you have to do.

Hmm, I didn't realise the mid frame was separate to the glass. (duh)

This is the first one I came accross!

I've fixed 3 of them with just the digitizer (glass) and they've been perfect afterwards. Got the part on eBay for €14. It was for family so I didn't get to profit from my endevours. It's not that easy but if you have patience and steady hands you can do it. First one took me about an hour because there was so much cracked glass around the mid section that I had to scrape off so that the glass went on flush. The next 2 took about 20 minutes/half hour to do.

The way my niece throws around her stuff it probably won't be long before I need to do it again.

    Hi
I think my LCD is damaged on my iPhone 3GS. I ordered the glass of the internet as I was going to change it myself until I saw the instructional videos on youtube, and realised that my LCD is damaged. See photo.

    Photo on 2011-02-10 at 18.11.jpg

I am wondering, how would I get this repaired and would this cost much. My phone was bought in April last year, so its probably under warranty, but I doubt they would give me a new phone when its damaged because I dropped it.

Is there anywhere that would change the LCD screen, the glass itself is ok.

Thanks in anticipation of any help you guys can give me!

Sorry, another question, my phone is insured with o2. I read on the website that they will cover repair for accidental damage. Does anybody know if this is the case?

The insurance does cover accidental damage but it would not cover "undue care or negligence", so make sure to give as much detail about the situation as possible so they understand that it wasn't caused by a preventable accident.
