Expected to travel

    Hi,

I work for a US MNC. Up until 1 year ago my job involved little or no travel. Since a change in my department, there is an expectation of travelling 3 or 4 times a year for a week at a time to the U.S. Sometimes I'm given a couple of weeks notice and asked (not much choice) to travel over. I've got a young family, and I'm starting to get annoyed over the whole thing as its having an adverse effect at home. Of course the obvious option is to look for something else but besides that I do love the job. Anyone ever experienced a similar scenario?

Find ways to do the job by video or telecon? (This may involve you working nights from Ireland.)

Look for a new job not in a US multi-national?

Look for ways that company can compensate you for the family difficulties (eg hire a nanny for the weeks you are away) and negotiate?
