    Not sure if this is the right thread for this but Imagine have bought over Clearwire and I got a call to see if I wanted to switch to imagine.

    I was all for it as I could get a better deal with them. However I was told that there is an immediate €150 cost for their equipment, being a student I can't really afford this. When I told the sales rep this I was told that my Clearwire service is being canceled in February and I basically have no choice but to either switch to them or find a new ISP. Any one know what I can do here?

    Moved to Midband.

    Imagine bought Clearwire about a year ago. Your choices are to switch or cancel and find a different (proper) ISP. My vote would be to find real broadband, and give Imagine a wide berth.

    I would make an estimated guess and say that that is total bull**** from Imagine. Clearwire is not just in Ireland, they are all over the world and much much bigger than Imagine.

    The only problem with finding a new one is that I have no phone line

    Imagine bought only the Irish Operation of Clearwire. Clearwire's USA WiMax rollout is losing money heavily, hence disposal of assets.

    The only problem with finding a new one is that I have no phone line

    Digiweb/Smart, Magnet UPC, Ripplecom, Westnet, Permanet, Airwire all have services that don't use copper pair phone wire (Fixed Wireless, Cable, Fibre)

    I'm in the same boat got a letter saying:

    Recently Clearwire Ireland became part of the Imagine Comms. Group..Over the coming weeks we will be upgrading as many Clearwire customers as possible to WiMax - the next generation of phone and broadband. Due to this upgrade, your current Clearwire service may soon be discontinued.

    Over the coming weeks we will be upgrading as many Clearwire customers as possible to WiMax - the Next Generation of phone and broadband. Due to this upgrade, your current Clearwire service may soon be discontinued.

    We will do our utmost to upgrade everyone, but this may not be possible in all cases. For those customers who do get upgraded to WiMax, there are many benefits:

    * Fast, Reliable Broadband with speeds of up to 10Mb
    * FREE calls to mobiles
    * NO MORE Line Rental Charge
    * Advanced Phone Service with unlimited Local, National and UK calls
    * Free Wi-Fi
    * Mobile Broadband on the move with speeds of up to 7Mb

    If for some reason we are unable to connect you to WiMax, we have a range of alternative services, making sure you are accommodated.

    In some cases, it may be that your Clearwire service will not be affected at all.

    We will be in touch shortly to discuss your upgrade options. However, because of the huge demand for WiMax, we would encourage you to call us on 1890 929 024 and choose option 1 to give you priority for upgrade.

    Kind regards

    Customer Service Manager

    Is WiMax any good or am I better getting UPC Broadband?

    Get UPC if you can,there's a huge amount of threads on Imagine Wimax and none have nice things to say about them.
