Galway Bay Hotel, 2 weddings on same day

    Hi
I am planning a wedding this year. We looked at the Galway Bay Hotel which is available on the date we want. Only problem is that there will be another wedding on in the bigger function room on the same date. The wedding planner has assured us that there is no chance the 2 wedding parties will meet as they are in separate wings of the hotel.

Has anybody had any experience of attending a wedding in the hotel when there was 2 on.

    All feedback welcome

I was at a wedding in the Slieve Russell and there was a second one on there the same day. Function rooms were close to each other. It was obvious there was another wedding on but it didn't interfere with the one I was at and we weren't bothered by it - then again we were just guests.

While there may be two wings to the hotel with a wedding in each there are going to be multiple common areas where parties can meet.

Its a personal decision after that.

If im honest im not too sure how you could be that far away.. i stayed in that hotel last year and its big but not that big. All your guests also have to walk through the same front door, as do both brides on there arrival. I wouldnt be overly keen of another wedding been on on the same day as mine.

It depends on whether you're bothered by it or not.

I will say though that we've booked the Galway Bay hotel and I really couldn't recommend them enough... they've been an absolute pleasure to deal with and everything we've asked for or suggested has been no problem! Emails get answered pretty much straight away and they've been incredibly helpful. I don't know how many times I've said that I'm so glad we booked them... and I'm pretty much in love with the hotel to be honest :o . They've made it all so easy.

Gush over:o sorry mods if this is too much but I can assure you I do not work for or have any shares in said hotel.

I worked at a wedding in the Royal Marine where there was two weddings on that day, bit of a nightmare for the formal shots outside (even though I delayed by one hour) I wouldnt have been happy if it was my wedding.

I know someone who got married there a long time ago. There were 3 weddings in the hotel on the day. A lot of people from the other 2 weddings ended up moving to the 3rd wedding because the ones that they were attending were boring.

As a bride to be this year, I have got to say I would not be happy with this!!
Galway bay would not be my choice even though its very popular.

I suppose it comes down to how much you like the hotel & are willing to compromise?

I know I fell in love with my venue & there really was no going back!

In the interest of balance, I must say I was not at all impressed by the Galway Bay Hotel. We booked a meeting with their wedding co-ordinator at 3:00, a meeting which she never attended - extremely unprofessional. Her colleague showed us around instead, but did not have all the pricing information, the drinks reception area between the two function areas was flooded and I just didnt get a good vibe about the place, seems to me more of a place for a Debs/Grads - (chewing gum stuck to the carpet)... Just my opinion mind..We left at 3:40 to look next door in the Salthill Hotel, which I would highly recommend, and they were excellent to deal with, as were the Westwood (Dave in particular is great). As regards the Op's question on two weddings on the same day, I would say steer well clear of sharing the biggest day of your life with another couple in the same hotel if at all possible, as there is a big chance your guests will see bump into the other party, and you can be sure that some guests may leave one wedding to check out the other one later in the night - the 1 o' clock club (aka the jockey club :))

Best of luck with everyone's planning, just wanted to air my thoughts as some of you may take something from them.. And do remember that you can haggle with the hotel managers, no harm to request some extras which dont come as standard, worst they can say id no, but when they are competing with other hotels, their prerogative is to keep you onside..

I have been to a wedding there, and while it didn't really impact the individual wedding parties, I wouldn't really like it too much if I was a bride.
We picked the Westwood, and are delighted with it, got a great deal :D
Also a Galway bride, and nosy, where did you pick if you don't mind me asking?

SSFG, I will send you a PM.

By the way, the westwood is really nice so great choice.

I myself am getting married in the Galway Bay Hotel this year and am delighted with the Venue. There are 2 entrances for both function rooms, the larger function room the entrance is at the front of the Hotel and for the smaller one the wedding party will enter through the main doors. I have been 2 a few weddings there where both rooms are holding a wedding and I have to say I have never seen or heard the other guests.
The food has always been served on time and the staff were great.
I also went to look at the Salthill Hotel which is fantastic to look at but found the Coordinator very unhelpfull and rude!Just my opinion!Good look with your search.

I was at a wedding there 2 years ago. Great day had by all and there was a second wedding being held on the same day which most of us did not even realise. A friend who went out for a cigarette during the evening saw some other guests entering via a different door on the other side of the hotel and stook his head in the door. A completely seperate event was in full swing and no one was any the wiser.

I don't think it going to be an issue OP to be honest. I would think the hotel have done this many times before hand and are well trained in keeping both weddings apart.

I attended a wedding in the Galway Bay Hotel last year and there was a second wedding party there too. No problems with it at all that I noticed! When the second party arrived, the first (which I was with) were neatly ushered to a second bar. No hassles.

I am getting married in Padraicins (Furbo) in April and there will be a post wedding party on that same night. It doesn't bother me at all, nor does it bother the other couple but our wedding isn't particularly traditional and quite small.

I guess it depends how many guests you have and what you want to do around there. As someone before me said, you hardly want to share photo hour with another bridal party...

I am very curious about the Galway Bay Hotel now though. And a couple we know is actually getting married in the Westwood same day as ourselves, would have been fun to check out, only been there once for a drink.

That was exactly the same with us we were interested in that venue but after meeting her i'm glad we didnt book it!

OP i booked the Galway Bay Hotel for 2012 i know there are up to 2 weddings there but each function room has it's own entrance, it's own bar, it's own 'greeting area' and loads of different places in grounds of hotel for photographs. There are different serving staff for each wedding. I know people who have had weddings there and i have had nothing but glowing reports

I've djed at weddings in both parts of Kilashee with two weddings going on and never noticed any issues occuring
If the hotel handles it properly there shouldn't be any hitches

Haven't used the Galway Bay Hotel for weddings, but had an awful experience staying there for our honeymoon. Paid top dollar for a suite which was ordinary to say the least (having TOLD them in writing it was for our honeymoon). Heating had broken down, room was filthy, and service indifferent to say the least. Checked out after one night, and stayed in the Bunratty Castle which was excellent!! Service was 1000% better, far nicer room, and lovely staff.

I would NEVER recommend the GBH to anyone. And I certainly wouldn't be happy having two weddings at the same time. I used to work in events and ran weddings. I think the service tends to suffer.
