    Hi all
Did a fifty k spin today which was nice as Havnt been out for a bit with weather , Poxy flu etc but taking bike off de turbo last night I noticed it had a puncture. My query is how exactly can one get a puncture while on the turbo. Find it weird. Any theories welcome

    Cheers

Did you use the tyre outside before putting it on the turbo? Perhaps something had lodged in the tyre but hadn't punctured the tube yet.

1). something stuck to turbo went through your wheel
2). You punctured it before you went on the turbo (slow puncture)
3). You had a barney with your OH and she let your wheels down.

Number 3 sounds feasible. Must have had a slow one

Funnily enough, I punctured on the turbo this morning as well. It happened whilst I was riding it. I was about an hour in, spinning fast down a hill on a real life video on the Tacx Imagic, when there was a sound like a gunshot. Rear tube had split and blown the tire off the rim. I reckon I just had too much pressure in it and it heated up and expanded running at high revs....

Thats the second Turbo puncture, in the last one the centre of the valve blew itself out.

Better than being skinned alive after putting a Quigs shaped dent in one of the local roads in this weather however. I think having to stop to change a tube makes my virtual reality all the more realistic. If I had someone next to me halfwheeling me it would be perfect.

Had similar experience last October and had considered posting but thought people would think me daft. Same bike on same turbo for nearly 4 years and when I repaired puncture, I noticed it was on the seam and my LBS mechanic reckons it was due to constant overheating which made sense to me as I often noticed the rear tyre being quite hot after a session, which never lasted more than an hour.

i also punctured last week. I didn't happen while in a session but wheel was flat 2 days after a session when i went to use it. found it weird. ive a turbo tyre on it so all i could think of was that i pinched it when mounting it, though it has been on it for over 2 months!

Same thing happened me last Wednesday. Tiny stone that was lodged in the tyre and only got pushed it when on full resistance. I was snapping at the time, So annoying

It's not really winter till I've heard you've come off somewhere on a Sunday :D

In that case Junior, I hope there is no winter for you this year. I thought I was being clever yesterday waiting till afternoon to head out and ended up to my axles in slush and ice on a remote road in South Kilkenny. Stayed upright for once.

Finally getting some use out of that TacX Imagic though. Highly recommend them once they are set up correctly.

Imagic kicks ass. Can't get enough of it. Print intervals on Alpe d'Huez! Loving it.

Had another puncture on the turbo today. Had a look and saw it was the last repair patch lifting so I replaced the tube with a new spare I had. Put a small amount of air in before re-seating the tyre and remounted it on the turbo and pumped to 80 and then an explosion. Checked tube again and there was about a 3 inch tear. I had the pressure of the turbo on as I pumped and I'm wondering if this was a mistake and if that was what caused the tube to burst ? Or perhaps just unlucky with faulty tube? Any ideas folks? Whilst it was a brand new (unused) tube I have had it for about 4 years. Do they perish, with time, on the shelf ?

Nice one, heading up Alpe d'Huez in 10 days :) I liked this guy's write up of his ascent: http://www.gsoto.easynet.co.uk/fr_ride1.htm

Anyone using a Schwalbe Insider turbo training type? Got a blowout on the tyre last week. Apparently a faulty batch of these shipped out recently. Was pumping mine to 120psi which is below the max (145). Maybe too high though considering how hot it gets?
