After the battery was reconnected, did you have to enter the security code?
You normally would have to, and then "normally" it should work as usual!
Havent heard of the sound not working if everything else is ok though.

After reconnecting the battery, I entered the key code, everything works except the sound to the speakers, I have googles this and it would seem that there are many posts about it, but no solutions as to how to repair, the car is booked in to a ford dealer on Wednesday, but was Hoping to not have to spend a load of money to be told the unit is shot....

Found a used radio from the same model and replaced that. This fixed the issue

Not related to the battery but sometimes there can be a loose connection at the back of the head unit.
Also, have you checked the fuses? They're inside the glove box behind a panel for the Ford Focus.

yep. i checked fuses and they were ok. As new radio just worked straight away.
Also connection was ok as i checked and double-checked those. I removed and fit old radio back many time before I considered buying replacement one.
Just for some reason old radio died :)

Turn volume up to max. Put your ear to any of the speakers and you should hear sound. If this is the case then your radio is repairable.

There was a tiny-tiny sound. And diagnostics (when you press and hold 2 and 5 buttons on the radio) worked and produced proper sound in all speakers.
Just for some reason it did not work when playing cds or radio

I thought by pressing buttons 3 & 6 that a check is done on the output amp, anyway in this case the amp is not faulty. Your radio is certainly repairable.
