    Hello,
Im in dire need of some help with slurry pump. Have new vanes put in no problems there. I put them in from the back of the pump. I think I have the key lined up properly as the back plate goes on fine and bolts tightened up.

Now when I go to twist the pto on the pump by hand it locks up and wont twist at all. But if I loosen the nuts only a fraction i can twist the pto no problem. So i stayed twisting the pto while i got someone else to tighten the nuts up fully. But then it locks up again. Does anyone know what could be wrong....is it the key?

If the key wasnt lined up properly would the pto still twist without problem with all the nuts tightened up fully?

(battioni pump SE1000 on a 2100 gallon abbey).

    Any info appreciated.

    Thanks

is it possible that when you squeeze it together that the gears at the front of the pump arent lining up right, cogs mightnt be fitting together

make sure the vein shaft isn't bent. Did you change the veins because they wore out or because you cracked a vein ??

seen that on atank it only new.it just needed a extra gasket or 2 on the back plate 2leave abit of room 4movement of the new vains.

Thanks for the replies lads. No the veins werent broken...i just wanted to replace them as the old ones were worn.

Seems like the new vanes are too long so i guess I can either shorten the new veins or use extra gaskets!

    Thanks again!

just a thought but, when you say the key, is that the keyway of the shaft itself that the vanes are mounted onto. It could be that the keyway is a little off, so that the centre of the vanes do not line up concentrically with the centre of the shaft itself.
Spin the shaft and see it rubs at one pt only on the outer diameter. You'll have to bring in something slowly on the outer edge until it starts to touch. If this pt then lines up with the line of the keyway, then the keyway is the problem.
A bit of thin foil or something similar (shim ideally) would correct it for you.

Here's a pic of the keyway type.

Yes its the key that fits into a housing in the centre shaft. I thinks it for the oil cooler. If i took it out or left it out the pump would not suck up any oil and then the pump would not be lubricated.
I think its in ok though. I might take it out and see if it makes any difference. I'll also take out the new vanes, tighten it up and see if i can twist it by hand.

Just to see if there is any difference

the last two times we done the vanes in the tanker, the shaft couldnt be turned by hand, but could be turned with a shifter on it.
was a bit unsure of it, but worked away anyhow, never had any problems with the pump after
