ARES TAvor problems

Hi all, the tavor was bound to pop up here again at some stage :P

anyways, my mate got this a few weeks ago and it never fired properly... I had the gearbox fixed by a mate of mine and it does work, but when i put it into the shell and attach it to the trigger it doesn't fire. I've found out that it's the trigger bar that attaches the lever on the outside of the gearbox to the trigger itself, it's either too long ot too short.
When i pull the gearbox out a slight bit and pull the trigger it works meaning that the gearbox isn't sitting in the shell right, just wondering has anyone got any ideas as to why?
I can't find anything like this on the web..
    thanks :)

    also on a side note:

my SCAR makes a springy noise after i pull the trigger, it still fires and everything but it doesn't sound healthy anyone have any ideas with that?

have you seated the gearbox properly? if its not in the right spot, thats a rebuilding issue rather than an inate fault. Whoever put it backtogether has missed something out, or put it in the wrong spot.

when you mean rebuilding it. do you mean the gearbox or just putting the rifle back together. I took it apart, but I've already tried to take it apart and reassemble it several times but that still doesn't work

Cillian, bring them both to me, I'll sort them FOC :)
I've a better air nozzle on the way for the Scar too.

Hi Ger, I should be able to fix them the TAR at least, my mate has already spent money on the gearbox problem so he doesn't want to spend more and same with me, I know both are easy enough to fix I have yet to figure out how :P I'm heading into hobby soon enough to get a tune up kit for the SCAR so that should sort out that AEG and the TAR is just annoying me so I'll give it another while and see otherwise ill tell my mate to bring it up to you :)

    Thanks mate

    Hi

I presume you have fitted the two small screws in the mag well that screw into the gearbox ? If so then the gearbox should be in the right location.

The only suggeston I could make it that maybe the grub screw on top of the trigger mechanism is not screwed out enough and it is stopping the trigger rod from sliding fully into the top of the trigger mechanism ?

yup had the two scres in the mag well in, that other idea sounds interesting though, what you mean the grub screw might be out enough? thought I had to get them in as far as they could go?

I'm just thinking that if you didn't loosen the grub screw enough when attaching the trigger rod to the top of the trigger mechanism, the rod might have only gone partially into the hole. If this has happened it would make sense that you would have to pull the gearbox a little rearward in order to get it to fire.

Yes, indeed the grub screw does need to be tightened then to hold it all in place.

    Just a theory !

oh getcha, bit that couldn;t have happened as i removed it altogether

    an other ideas?

    T4rget

I has my Tavor in bits all week and only put it back together last night. Guess what - it had exactly the problem you described. Wouldn't fire, but when I pulled the gearbox rearwards it did !

    It's working now !

I loosened the grub screw at the top of the trigger mechanism, got a little screwdriver down and pushed the top of the trigger rearwards as I retightened the grub screw.

I has the fire selector in the Safe position. I've noticed that if, when the gearbox is out, I move the fire slector to semi or auto, I can't get it fully back to Safe. I'm slightly suspicious that, after being in this state, the top of the trigger is not as far back as it should be.

If the last paragraph doesn't make sense ignore it. Basically, fire slector to Safe. Then push top of trigger rearwards before tightening the grub screw.

If this doesn't fix your problem, is there any possibility that the trigger rod is mounted in reverse. I'm sure you noticed that the two ends are different.

    Good luck

thanks alot mate :) I'll def try that now, well funny enough i actually reversed the trigger rod on purpose to try fix it, but have since put it back to the way it's meant to be. so fire to save and push the trigger mech further down the rod as i tighten the grub screw?
