Where can I buy hardwood in Dublin?

While the question itself might not fit this category, the intention of its ultimate use does.

I want to find a supplier of hardwood dowel, planks etc., for musical instrument building and sculpture.

I do know that Woodworkers in Terenure sell a limited selection of mouldings but I'm looking for larger bits, and kiln-dried woods.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Cheers

There's not many (if any) lutherie quality hardwood suppliers in Ireland. You would be better off searching online

yeh, I've bought kiln dried wood from the UK before...was hoping there'd be a more local provider!

None that I'm aware of that specialise in lutherie wood

Google searches brought up no lutherie suppliers in Ireland no, but I'm hoping here to find out if there are any shops that sell furniture-grade hard woods. Where do cabinetmakers get their wood?

I buy various hardwoods from McQuillans on Capel St. Mainly smaller pieces for carving and turning but I have seen some quite large pieces there too. Presumably if they can get it in large blocks they can also get it in planks etc which I guess is what you'd need.

    Hi
I am looking for a small off-cut of ebonised mahogany for a sculpture base. Needs to be at least 50 x 20 x 20 cm. I'm based in Dublin but willing to travel. Anyone here have any ideas please?
    Thanks
    Tara

That's a big lump of mahogany.
You are unlikely to get a single solid piece in those dimensions, but it wouldn't be a big deal to join boards up to that size.
PM me - I have mahogany in stock and can provide you with the finished article.

I've just realised the measurements should have read 50 x 20 x 4 - so not as chunky!

I'll PM you tomorrow if that's ok. Am on the road.

    Thanks a mill
