Hi. If I want to register a domain name, do I first have to already register a company of same name with the CRO?

If it's a .com it's fairly straightforward, no forms or anything to be submitted as far as I can recall.

If it's a .ie domain however... there's a little bit more to it...

For .com or .eu you don't need to provide anything

For a .ie domain name you would need to provide your CRO number (either business name or LTD)

If the domain name you want to register is not the same or very close to the business name then you would need to provide a singed letter outlining why you want to register it.

No CRO needed, you can register a .com with almost nothing and a company in Sweden even lets you register anonomoulsy, but unless your wikileaks, prob not necessary:D

So if I want a .ie website then I need to register the name of the company first and then provide the business registration number if I'm reading it correctly?
There is already a .com version of the website and I am in discussions with them already and they are happy for me to register and use the .ie version of the web address.
It is a new business venture.
I am an employee and also have a sole trading company both have nothing whatsoever to do with the new venture.
    Cheers for any help.

Registering a business name with www.cro.ie and then going and applying for a .ie is just the easiest way of going about it.
