    Hey all,

New to this forum but hoping you can help.

I am looking to do a walk in Wicklow this weekend, nothing too hectic, possibly two to three hours or so. Was looking at this walk on Knocknacloghoge (Lough Dan):

Just wondering if anyone has done this lately or has any other suggestions for alternatives. Have done the Sugarloaf previously so would like to do something new.

Also, what are the roads like up in the Wicklow Mountains at the moment after the heavy frost a couple of weeks ago. Is there many potholes on the roads?

    Many Thanks,

    D

That walk's a nice, easy route with great scenery. Not too much uphill.

As for the roads, I'd suggest heading to Roundwood and then taking the R759 up to the Pier Gates. The Sally Gap can get unpassable fast in bad weather, especially on the hill near Lough Bray.

If you'd like suggestions for other walks, this forum is definitely the place to ask. There seems to be about ten boardsies per valley in Wicklow.

I think that Glendalough is a helluva place. It's tourist-town, especially in the summer, but most people don't leave the valley floor. There's a load of walks around there, as long as you like. I'd particularly recommend heading up along The Spink, for the scenery alone.

If you're up in Dublin and Glendalough is too far, you can also try Maulin. You can park in Crone Woods, then saunter along the Wicklow Way, branch off to summit Djouce and enjoy the view there, then backtrack along the Way until braching off to summit Maulin and another fantastic vista. From there, there's a lovely descent back to the car park.

Personally I think Lugalla is a nicer hill to climb, and the views are better from the top. It's the hill just to the right of Knocknaclohogue, you approach it from the same area and the path up is obvious.

    Hi,

I have been trying to locate Fentons pub as the starting point for lug hike but having trouble doing so.

Could anyone mark it on google maps for me please? Just so I can pinpoint directions on how to get there.

    Thanks!

Here is the pub, and here's where you want to park; take the turn off to the right of Michael Dwyer's statue.

I usually park either in the pub car park or on that little patch of ground on the left as you drive past the front of the pub. You only save a few hundred metres by driving up the road/ track behind the pub there, and the surface is a bit crap sometimes.
