bought brand new laptop yesterday what i thought should say 250GB in my computer same as it does on the box, but when i go to my computer i get 219GB
rang the shop they said its normal
that's hidden storage incase you need to recovery factory settings and such...?
but why did i have to make 3 recovery discs  bit strange 31GB worth of HDD space used for that
my old laptop was 120GB and in my computer it said something like 100GB free of 120GB but this i get 192GB free of 219GB

    here's a screen shot

    cheers for any help

250GB is the manufacturers definition of the hard-drive size, using the decimal number system (base 10).

When you look at the size of something in Windows, it uses the binary number system (base 2).

250GB in decimal is something like 232GB in binary. So that accounts for most of the discrepancy. And the rest is probably a hidden recovery partition.

Right-click 'My Computer' and go to 'manage' and 'disk management' and you'll see what partitions there are. Be careful not to change anything.
