Hi everyone, i joined slimming word 3 weeks ago , in the past i managed to loose almost 3 stone with ww, but put it back on and decided to try a new plan to up the tempo!!!
After 3 weeks i have only lost 2 and a half pound!!!! i could loose this in one week with ww at the start!
Slimming worls seems to be alot less strict and you can rat all the fruit, veg, potatoes, pasta and lean meat as you want!! i do have massive dinner - but all with free foods - Which brings me to my question - Does this plan work??

ps - been out walking every day and no drinking!!!

I do weight watchers so can't comment personally but I have friends who do and have done slimming world and found it fantastic.

Is the key to the free foods moderation and do you think your dinner is massive? What're you eating during the rest of the day? Sounds a little like the old weight watchers no count plan to me if you can eat whatever you want off a list....

wel my leader said to fill up on all these foods that there unlimited!!!

Generally i'm eating 30g porridge oats, bananna, 3/4 apples, free soup, diet coke, muller light yogurt, spag bol (sauce made with tinned tomatoes, met extra lean and used low cal spray oil). this was yday neways but ever day is almost the same!!

Doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong to me anyway. Slower weight loss is the way to keep it off but I can understand if you're disheartened. Maybe someone else who does slimming world can shed some more light on it for you but I'd encourage you to stick with it for another few weeks and see how you get on....hth....

With a food plan that has a free list like that you really need to be careful cos you could be filling up on lots of carbs even if they are "free" foods and this might slow down your loss.

Whether or not the plan works, i would think it does if you get a good gauge of working the food lists. Do you use a tracker of some sorts that you can list your foods and we can maybe add calories for it?

    Hi there,
Just spotted this discussion as a first time visitor here, I'm also thinking of trying out Slimming World as an alternative to WW. I did lose 3.5 stone with WW and managed to keep almost all of it off, but with the slight Xmas excess still swivelling around my middle, I could do with a couple of weeks intense focus that joining a club would do.
I also seem to have developed an intense aversion to counting Points, especially now that they have been changed to ProPoints, and it's all up in the air again with a new program. I did have a an exercise video a few years back, featuring Rebecca Wheatley, who had really lost a massive amount of weight. She was an actress in Casualty, apparently. I was more enticed to buy it by her transformation than her thespian cv, but it was a good buy and got me back into gentle exercise who had been a stranger in my home for way too long.

Much fitter now, and looking into shifting these 7 punds that are keeping me out out my skinny jeans at the mo, have read over the SW website, it looks promising for a Points-phobic but hopefully will get there in the next week or so. They only have one meeting a week in my area so will have to wait until Tues of next wk. Would love to hear from anyone who gets there before me or anyone already going!

I meant to say, Rebecca Wheatly had lost her 10-odd stone with Slimming World, DUH

How often do you weigh yourself OP?

Your bodyweight fluctuates daily. Maybe when you first weighed yourself you were dehydrated but when you weighed yourself 3 weeks laters you were fully hydrated and hadn't emptied your bowels.

Do your clothes feel looser at all? Do you look better?

And saying you could lose that with weight watchers in one week is kidding yourself really. It wouldn't be real fat loss, just the glycogen on your liver would have been used up.

Ive been in Slimming world since October, Ive lost 10Ib in total, getting disheartened now as Im struggling with last few pounds. Seem to have a pound off one week and back on next week. It good diet but has no flexibility around the weekend. I go gym 3 times a week and eat perfect Mon to Fri, just struggle on weekends. Thinkin of joining ww, although is fruit free?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 168 ✭✭pw01

yeah fruit is free under there new plan - i'm guna try it out myself!!

That doesn't sound too bad. Although Ive a phobia of measuring food, I eat more as if to compensate for smaller portions..Im never bloody full!!

Am on my second week of of Slimming World and so far so good. Had my first weigh in this week and was down 4.5lbs.

Am aware that when I weighed in the first week that I had my period so was probably bloated from that and an extra couple of lbs up on what I should be.

I already feel that I am down at least another pound.

However, I have also got into exercise and am exercising for an hour 4 times a week as well.

I have between 1 to 1.5 stone to lose and feel this is the way I will get there.

I NEED A PLAN - I NEED A STRUCTURE........so WW or Slimming world is my questions.
I'm wary of Slimming world as it seems very adaptable and loose, but with WW you can technically eat a load of sh1te so long as it's within your points..
Anyone ever done both... any suggestions or ideas pLEASE

I've been doing WW on and off (mostly off) for years. I lost 1.5 stone in 3 months one of the times. Now I've got to the stage where after putting weight on gradually over the years I now want to lose 3.5 stone which will get me to a size 8.

When I did WW, I lost a lot of weight in the first couple of weeks, then it slowed down to about 0.5lbs - 1.5 lbs a week.

I started Slimming World at the start of Jan and lost 2.5 lbs on the first week and 1.5lbs a week since. I have been disheartened with the slow losses but I much, much prefer Slimming World. I feel like I could stick to this diet forever and not feel deprived. I'm never hungry, whereas I spent most of my time on WW absolutely starving. I think that's why I put weight on so quickly once I got to goal, I had a feeling of 'thank god that's over' and stupidly started eating normally again. My sister has lost about 2 stone doing Slimming World. She lost it slowly, but looks amazing now. The other girls in my meeting have lost 5 or 6 + stone.

Some people get big losses every week but I've never managed it.

    My average day would be...

Breakfast: Oat so simple made with Semi skimmed milk & some maple syrup.

Coffee time: Muller light, banana & an apple

Lunch: Packet of Bachelors Pasta N sauce and an apple

Dinner: Big plate of Spaghetti bolognese with parmesan

snack: cadbury's caramel bunny or one finger of a twirl.

That day would be about 9 syns, and you're allowed up to 15 a day.

You could lose it perhaps, but as you can see from your first line, you put it all back on again anyway!
If you lose more gradually but keep it off, that's better.
ps - been out walking every day and no drinking!!!
Walking is ok, but not strolling - really push it. I would highly suggest you go running / start the c25k program

There is flexibility in how you use your syns which is betweden 5-15 per day! - save some from each day to use at the w/end. You MUST include 1/3 of superfree foods in your meals - either as a large portion of veg etc., or include the veg in the ingredients of the meal. Hope that helps.

    I've done both.

I did WW about 4 years ago and lost over 2 stone in about 10 weeks (I was very young :)).

Last year I tried slimming world, had great losses for the first few weeks but then it sorta fell apart!

Back to WW on the propoints plan since the end of Jan and I've 7.5lb off. I've a lot to lose and am content to do it slowly!

Out of the two I definitely prefer WW, I haven't got great self control so the lack of structure in SW was no good for me - as in, not having a limit to the amount of meat etc you can eat.

It really depends on how you feel about keeping track of what you eat and counting points, how much freedom you want when losing weight!

    Best of luck anyway :)

1/3 of every meal must be superfree

Do not save your syns for the weekend. You can use flexi syns for the weekend when you are going out.

SW is a healthy eating plan rather than a diet. You should never be hungry on this plan as the only thing that limits you is your appetite.

To anyone struggling, increase your fluid intake and wrtie down everything that crosses your lips and bring it to your SW consultant. He/She will be bale to point out areas you can change.

Also make sure you are measuring your Healthy Extras and Syns.

I'm not a consultant but I have lost 27lb with slimming world and it has changed my life for the better, I will never go back to having a goodfellas pizza for dinner when I know I could throw something much nicer together is the same amount of time

Still plugging away at the Slimming World.

Have been there since 19th Jan and am down 1 stone 1 lb.

I have also been doing a lot more exercise in the gym (mainly spin classes) and all I can say is that my legs now look really slim and long!

Have been getting so many compliments on the weight loss that it is really spurring me on.

Had a bad blow out last night (I have been off drink since 19th Jan) but needed a girls night with lots of naughty food and a good few vodkas and lime.

Now am going to tackle phase II - the last 10lbs are going to be very hard to shift.

Am thinking of trying a different program targeting my upper body and kick starting the diet again from Monday. I am going to pretend I have not lost a stone and start as if I am starting from scratch again with a stone to lose and go for it hell for leather.

Think SlimmingWorld is great - I much prefer it over weightwatchers and I find the leaders so very much more supportive and personal - love the little texts you get on Weigh in day.

I did the filling foods plan with ww a few years ago and thought it was great, but then they scrapped it and it was back to counting everything as points...yawn!then it all went down hill for me and I stopped going. Joined slimming world recently and really enjoying it. consultant is great, the plan is great and its easy once you understand it.

I just wish that restaurants would start offering healthy options on their lunch and evening menus. most of them seem to think that a wrap is the healthy light option...but in reality it's not...10 syns with sw. I'd rather a few chips! over the last week I've been eating out a lot and asked for my veg with no butter...and it arrived lathered in butter, asked for cod without the garlic butter and it arrives out with garlic butter!!it's like we have a total obsession with things being covered in butter, oils and sauces...people who want different are just ignored! The UK and NI seems to be addressing this in restaurants with some even having the wwpoints and sw syns printed on the menu. What happened to the HSE's healthy eating promotions???

I joined slimming world on the 22nd of February I lost half a pound in my first week but I had two nights drinking so I was happy and decided my second week this week I would eat right, no messing around I stood on the scales there and i haven't lost anything its very disheartening and i'm not sure I want to go for my weigh in now :( what is the new propoints system like in ww?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 684 ✭✭✭donegalgirl28

I have been on SW for 7 weeks, have lost 1st 9.5lbs (23.5lbs) so far. I have still been naughty having a bit of chocolate, alcohol and even had the odd chip takeaway. You have to remember to keep eating loads of fruit/veg with your meals. That's the most important thing as it flushes all the **** out your system.

Got my club 10 last night.....so now have lost 1 stone 3 lbs since Jan 19th. Not bad going.

Have 9 more to go to goal. Will keep trying till I get there.

For me though, it is a combination of food and exercise. It is the exercise that has really changed my shape and that is what people now notice first about me!

Did weight watchers in the past before pro points. Much prefer Slimming World. My sister who is doing Weight Watchers pro points joined the same week as I joined slimming world. She is only down about 6 pounds and is struggling with the diet.

I prefer the freedom you get with Slimming World, though can appreciate that a more structured diet works better for others.

i have 2 stone 7 lb gone since last july.... i have been very bold last week and was up a pound , need to get back at it and refocus:eek:

I had my first gain of 0.5lbs last Tues, need to lose 1lb now for my Club 10. Have been totally out of focus the past couple of days, the weekend hasn't been too bad but I have been indulging in too many syns. I need to get myself to Dunnes and stock up on fruit. Tesco/Lidl/Aldi don't do nice fruit I find.

I was thinking of enrolling in the on-line version of Slimming World to lose about 2-3 stone. Has anyone tried it, or is the meetings the way to go?

I would be very self disiplined and focused when I set my mind to soomething so I don't feel I need the motivation talks from a SW rep. Any views?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 684 ✭✭✭donegalgirl28

The meetings are better, as the online version, it doesn't provide you with the "bible" which is the food optimising book which tells you and explains what everything is. It's all in the one book. You could just go for the first meeting, pay €18 and get your book, log in pin and then use the online feature ;)

Hi, this is my first time ever posting anything on a forum. I joined SW the end of Jan and have lost 20 lb with no suffering what so ever. I have done every diet before (ww, unislim, motivation, lipotrim, slimfast, optislim) with out much sucess, I always get disheartened at slow progress and lose my way and give up. I find SW just seems to suit me, my general well being and energy has improved. I enjoy the format of the group there is great interaction between members , I dont get as hung up on the weeks where I didnt lose much or had a gain, I think I have accepted that as I gradually gained 3 stone that I wont lose it overnight and I would be happy to lose half a stone a month.
Several of my friends have joined and that is a great source of support as we text encouraging messages to each other etc.
I would encourage any one thinking about joining to do so as the eating plan is good and something you could do for life rather than other diets that fall to the wayside when you reach goal .....and then gain all the weight again!!!

This is my first time posting also, i've been following slimming world for 6 weeks now have lost 7lb.. and thats with me having some 'bad' weekends so i'm happy.. But need to get my head down now for holidays. I've done ww before and lost 3 stone kept it off for 9 years and then gave up smoking i've tried to go back to ww but just not motivated by it this time so said i'd try something different - i enjoy slimming world as im losing weight while not being hungry and still living my life hopefully this will continue....

The thing I love about it also is that I'm never hungry on it. With WW, if you used up all your points you couldn't eat. Very restricting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 364 ✭✭shivers27

Hey , how are you all doing with SW now? I am thinking of joining !!!! Lost a stone with WW previously but put it all back on  Really dont like the new pro points thing. Can you drink alcohol with SW ? Thanks :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 684 ✭✭✭donegalgirl28

I have just over 3 stone gone since January. I was nearly at the 3 stone mark at the end of May (was 1lb off) but I maintained my weight as I was out of the country for 6 weeks in July/August. Back on track last week and set to lose hopefully another 2 stone by Christmas.

Yes you can drink alcohol on SW but it is considered a "syn". You are allowed to have 15 syns a day for anything that is not listed as a free food or a healthy extra.

A 35ml measure of vodka is 4 syns, same goes for brandy, rum and whisky. A 175ml glass of wine is very high in syns at around 8 syns. A standard wine glass measure (250mls) would be about 13 syns or something. Not sure of exact value as I haven't got my book to hand.

I would recommend you join. You can go in, sit in for new members talk and then listen to the group's image therapy and if you want to get into it then you pay your membership fee (€18 first time) and weigh in. Every week after that it's €9.

I love SW as I'm not restricted on foods at all. When I go out to a restaurant I can have this and that and not worry about portion size cos it's not about that, it's about making the right choices. Anyways before I get into a long winded post about how great SW is, it's probably best for you to go to a group, listen, take it in and then decide. After all, you have nothing to lose :)
