    hi folks,

just wondering about a problem i've encountered.

old extension, timber frame gable to first floor of 3 bed semi, ply wood, rib lath and plaster finish. the plaster has cracked along edges of each sheet of rib lath and will all need to be replaced, presumably insurance job. moisture has permeated and damaged plywood which shall need to be replaced.

firstly, how do you approach insurance co. is it better to engage an assessor on your behalf.

secondly, any suggestions for suitable alternative finish, (possibly incorporating external insulation) can anybody recommend a contractor in south east for external insulation or suggest other viable options.

(would insurance co. insist on like for like replacement of finish or would they cover you up to the cost of like for like and give you discretion regarding new finish, or indeed would they cover it in the first place, not something i've come across before.)

    much obliged.
