A guy texted in to Seán Moncrieff this afternoon saying that Sinn Féin were canvassing in Brian Cowen's constituency today - already!

Have you seen canvassers from any party yet?

I saw one, but his face and my door soon made contact.

Only the local Labour heads. They get my vote anyway, so that wasn't realy annoying.

I'm waiting for FG and FF to show up. They will not get away lightly. SF and the Greens will just be told to **** off.

Will say the same thing I always say

"My vote is in another constituency"

It's true too, I don't waste their time and they don't waste mine

Sinn Fein & Labour are the only parties I'd be interested in hearing what they have to say.

I wonder how many acts of assault will be committed against canvassers for FF?

We'll probably only hear about the really bad ones - and watch FF use it to get sympathy!

I'm cant wait until a Sinn Fein head knocks on the door.

They will be invited in, where they will be quizzed about political ideals and there plan for economic recovery.

There is nothing better than live comedy in your sitting room

Dunno, how many knackers do we have?

Because only a knacker would attack any political representative - regardless of their party or politics.

While i agree with this 100%, there are people out there under massive pressure from being unemployed, about to lose their home or even unable to put food on the table. If a Fianna Fail candidate calls to the door there may be an instance where it could all kick off - someone might just crack. There are 400,000 people unemployed. It only takes one to do something and we'll be making global news again.

Sen Frances Fitzgerald (FG) called to my door a few hours ago! Talk about quick off the mark. I shook her hand and asked her to get rid of the current shower. She asked me for a high preference and I agreed I might give her my number 2.

    That's one sent off happy.

That is the problem, because of budget cuts I have had to quit college and go on SW! I am humiliated and heartbroken, though I would not physically abuse any person (aside from Self Defence) I will be giving them an earful and I will not swear or shout but they will NOT hit the point!

And there are thousands more like me!

nobody canvasses in my area, I don't blame them though because my estate is full of lazy cnuts who probably don't even know what an election is.

Thats awful, I'm really sorry to hear that.

I'll have to dig in very deep to keep my son in college, and my daughter when her time comes.. I've said it in another thread, I never had the chance to go onto third level education. But I'll starve and walk about thread bare if it mean's getting my two through college.

Anyway, hope things pick up for you.

I am only lucky that his father is in college and will have a great career at the end so we'll manage. But they are those who are far worse off than me!

Two young men called last week on behalf of Senator John Paul Phelan. I told them the next time I saw them they'd better have their backs to me and be running. Don't care if he's Fine Gael. They are all cut from the same cloth.

Payback time... in a non-violent way..

Could we all make the canvassers (any party not fussy) come in for tea..

I know it would be hard work but could we show them ALL the family photo albums including the old black and white photos..

    That's just for starters..

Then maybe read parts of the bible, koran , karma sutra, Dr. Spock and ask them to justify certain parts of it in relation to their solutions to the economic crisis..

Maybe make them watch Judge Judy...

If you have kids: change the kids nappy on the table, let the kids puke on them... too far?

if you have dogs/cats/horses... let the animal hump the leg off them?

Bore them to tears so they run out of your house never to return... and maybe reconsider their political careers?

You get the gist of it?

    They've wasted our country...

Can we waste their time at least?

    :D

You can slag the Shinners off but they have been the only ones calling around here over the last few years about local issues.

I know that we're supposed to keep local and national separate but they're gonna get a few votes around here (Navan).

Two called to the door last night. Their strategy seems to be to go after the labour vote (from their mouths).

Are you referring to people of the Traveller community? I don't know. CSO might be your best bet there for statistics.

I do know there is something like over 400,000 people out of work, who still have huge mortgages to pay, whose prospects of revival are looking very glum. Tbf, FF/Greens and Independents who kept the sham government going deserve what they get if they are attacked, verbally or physically. They ruined the country, ****ed everyone else from a height, repeatedly lied to us and just looked after their mates from the Golf course. I'd imagine there are alot of very angry people out there amongst the 400,000+ and all it will take is one of those people to lose the plot when the supporters of the chief architects of this **** pie call around to their home. I won't celebrate anybody getting a slap but at the same time not a tear will be shed for them from this quarter.

The problem with this election is that Bertie Ahern has decided not to run.

I was really looking forward to giving him a piece of my mind and he has denied everyone the privilege.

Whatever about abusing the candidate, they can deal with it. You don't become a politician without being able to take criticism and being able to deal with cut throat selection committees. Your worst enemies are probably your own party members who'd walk over you to get selected

A canvasser is a volunteer and is out doing their bit for democracy. They found a candidate they believe and doing more then sitting back and complaining about "all the same" and "what's the point"
No need to abuse a volunteer.

our jack russell was hilarious for the local elections, every canvasser was too afraid to go near the front gate cause of the noise he was making at them if they tried to cross the grid, if they had actually crossed the cattle grid he would have ran away he is so timid...ill never forget the sight of two sinners legging it when they saw him

No, i wasn't actually, i was simply referring ti people that attack other people.

That can be anyone of any background that acts like that.

Being from athlone i tend to know quite a few travellers, and tbh, most of the one i know couldn't give a rats arse about politics -maybe their right

I can see your viewpoint but why anyone would think supporting and canvassing for Fianna Fail was doing anything favourable for democracy in Ireland is beyond me. They have consistently lied, decieved and shafted the electorate while looking after a chosen wealthy minority. How could anyone believe in these people? I just don't know.

They believe in their candidate and are out on cold dark evenings working for them. Maybe they are misguided but maybe you should find your own candidate who can beat them.

    Or do nothing
