    Hi!

I hope you are all well! I have gone on some fab trips over the last 2 years to SE Asia & to Sth America. This summer I am considering a trip to Central America. My friends are unable to travel for 3 weeks so I have researched an adventure group tour (with a well respected travel company) from San Jose Costa Rica, up through Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador & finally to Antigua in Guatemala. The tour last 3 weeks from end of July into August 2011.The group will be a minimum of 7 and max of 15 people.

So I have a few questions:

    1. Is Central America enjoyable in terms of history, culture, food, scenery and adventure activities? I am very active and fit!(not boasting!) I loved Laos, Vietnam, Bolivia etc
    2. Is it safe when compared to Peru & Bolivia /SE Asia?
    3. I can go away for long weekends/a week with friends, but due to work/family etc my mates cannot go with me for 3/4 weeks. So I am in the situation where I want to travel but dont have the free and single friends to traipse around the world! Am slightly anxious of travelling alone. So is a tour group a good option;have any of you experienced a trip with a group?

I am stuck with holidays from end of July to end of August;i am aware that this is the start of the rainy season, but provided I dont get flooded out of it, i can handle a bit of rain!

Thank you very much for reading and I would really appreciate any and all feedback.

    Arequipa.

Too bad that you are planing to go only to Antigua Guatemala in Guatemala, you could easily skip that city and go to other places far more interesting.

    Trying to answer your questions:

    1. Yes, you will be captivated by the culture if you go to the right places.
    2. I've never been to those countries but I could tell that central america is way... more dangerous, so go if you are of the adventurous type.
    3. I have the idea that "tour groups" are boring...go alone and meet local people.

If you need detailed information send me a PM I can give you advise, especially about Guatemala (the most interesting country in Central America).
