Discovery 3 TDV6 & LED lights on a trailer

I changed the set of lights I have on my horse-box to a set of LEDs. However my Land Rover Discovery 3 causes the indicator lights to flash consistently even when the jeep is not running. All the lights work correctly but the yellow lights keep flashing as if the hazard warning lights were on.

I tested the jeep on two other trailers that I have and it seems to work them fine without fault. I then tested other vehicles on the horse-box with the LEDs but they didn't encounter the same problem as with the Discovery.

I got a tester to test the socket on the jeep and it showed that even when the jeep was not running there was a small current coming through the indicator cables, but this does not prove to be a problem on any of my other trailers - only on the LEDs. I have now removed the LEDs and replaced them with a new set of ordinary lamps but would still like to find out what the story is because I could use them on another trailer.

Don't indicator LEDs mess with electronic flasher units unless there's a resistor in line?

Maybe it's Disco 3 specific, try asking on http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/

Actually got two resisters to see if they would sort out the problem but they were no good. They were each wired in before the lamp units and had no effect at all.

Is there a Canbus unit in the Disco? I know there's on in the Golf & if you so much as come near it with a LED in your pocket she'll start firing Warning symbols & buzzers at you.

You can buy rectifiers to go inline if it does.

Yeah just did a quick Google on it, seems to have a Canbus, now most simple wiring will cost more eg I'd to pay an extra €80 for a Canbus loom for the towbar & €90 extra for a Canbus-friendly car alarm.

Thanks, I will definitely have a look into the Canbus system, many thanks.

Thanks a million, I have looked into it and that seems to have been the problem. I am surprised then that the motor factors that I bought the lights from knew nothing about this because it looks like it is quite common on most cars and jeeps now.

Glad we got something sorted out!! Yeah I'm suprised too, as you said it's common place, it's like a faults brain in the jeep, so with the leds drawing such low current, it doesn't register with the canbus and causes it to alarm.
