the only reason for that is that Cowen wont go down as the shortest serving Taoiseach in the history of the state

Yeah because the country is going to be so much better off with the new goverment!!

I mean Burton as minister for Finance, then will truly be ruined!

Ye think we have it bad now, wait and you see the next shower are even worst!

I will decide my vote on the live debate and if Cowen destroys Kenny and Gilmore(which i could do) then it be a FF vote with independents as the rest!

Have you not been observing the absolute farce that is supposed to be our government for the past number of weeks / months / years.

You and people like you are the reason this shower of incompetents have been in power for 13 years.

Halleluah! I heard them talking on Newtalk this morning about "40 days" in the wilderness, how right they were. So only another 50 days or so until this government are gone. Was there any point in nominating new Ministers? Though I see that all the new ministerial posts are being taken by FF TDs.

Where are the Greens? They should really get out of this government now.

He isnt the shortest serving. He overtook John Bruton some time ago. Back in December I think.

Who ever policies makes fininacial sense and wins the debate are the ones to run the country.

If your policies dont add up in the election you cant expect a vote no matter what the party

Will there be a TV debate between party leaders in the next few weeks?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 683 ✭✭✭leincar

At least I have the postal vote as I'll be away. I travel on the 8th of March for 12 days so I'll miss the craic.

On another note, Cowen has appointed Coughlan to take on the duties of Health Minister, so anyone who survives the next 50 days will be able to vote.

March 11th a Friday, they could have held on for another 3 weeks till April 1st, would have been more appropriate!

Now is the time to register

I don't want to be reading threads in March that you can't vote as it was left too late.
And I'm sure you don't want to write them :)

And for college students to look at where they live now.
No point complaining that Bus Éireann won't get you across the country back home after college on Friday
Not meant to sound judging, we just see these threads each time

    +1

If ever there was an election that needs the highest turnout possible, this is the one.

Even if you can't decide who to vote for, just make sure to vote.

    And get this shower out!

It's about time this lame duck government with it's muted quack called this date. Today's goings on are fit for this laughable disgrace of a government. I hope they get what the deserve on the 11th of March. In saying that a lot of people were stupid enough to vote in this Government at the last election so I don't hold out much hope with stupid people like them in our country casting a vote.

I've no doubt he will. It will lead to a slight rise in Fianna Fowls vote, but it won't stop the inevitable.

Then we will have the honeymoon period for the new government, after that people will start drifting back to Fianna Fowl. Still I don't think it'll happen in sufficient numbers for Fianna Fowl to be back in power again in four- five years time.

I'll be interested to see how the electioneering unfolds. I'd say many FF candidates will reduce FF branding from their election posters to the bare minimum.

People with such an astonishingly delusional mindset who will vote for FF in the election are doing a complete dis-service to this country and are essentially rewarding FF for bankrupting the country and handing over a huge amount of our sovereignty to the EU and IMF. It defies any sort of logic why anyone in their right mind who even consider voting for FF after what they have done to this country. Unless saying "well done lads, you have bankrupt the state and done huge damage to the reputation of the country abroad, I applaud your astonishing incompetence and congratulate you, keep it up and see what more damage you can inflict on the country - here is my vote" - it is frankly astonishing how even the most loyal FF voter could do such a thing unless they frankly hated this country.

This has gone so far beyond whether people like Enda Kenny, Joan Burton or anyone else - what has transpired today has been quite frankly the biggest shambles in Irish political history - Brian Cowen ineptitude and frankly un-matched level of incompetence has show us exactly why this country is so ****ed at the moment. It is no wonder the country is in such a state with this inept moron running the show. I have to say I never imagined Cowen was this stupid - he has shocked even his biggest critics today and has totally ruined what was left of his reputation. He would have done less damage to himself and his laughable moronic party had he come out and begged the public to not vote for FF in the next election.

I am utterly shocked at what Cowen has done today. Frankly at this stage I worry about the man's mental health. What I am now worried about is what further damage he can do to Ireland from now until March 11th. It wouldn't surprise me at this point if he declared war on Germany by the end of the week.

The contempt and dis-respect he has show for the people of this country has been catastrophic for FF - Even bloody Haughey would be turning in his grave at this. We are a laughing stock internationally due to what Cowen and his cronies have done - and today Cowen has put the final nail in the coffin and by total accident. As O'Rourke said - when the leader of the country can't even appoint new Ministers he has lost all authority and credibility. His judgement has been so shockingly awful but this trumps everything. This is the ultimate own goal and as a result we now have Mary Coughlan as Health Minister and the public at large utterly infuriated like never before. Cowen has today basically handed over the keys to Enda Kenny and Eamon Gilmore and made an abolute fool of himself and FF to such an extent that it has shocked even the most delusional FF-uckers. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,073 ✭✭✭Devilman40k

The date may yet be sooner....newstalk have tweeted that backbenchers are calling on remaining ministers to oust Cowen tonight!

In answer to how damaged he feels Cowen now is by what he happened today - Tony Kileen has just said "I don't accept that the Taoiseach's handling is an issue at all"" :D:D:D:D:D

FF seem to be going to any lengths humanly possible to bring delusion to new levels. If this whole thing was an episode of Father Ted I would say it was quite simply too unrealistic. :D

You be better off trying to get Charles Manson to feel empathy for his fellow man than trying to reason with FF diehards. If he declared war on Germany, sure the faithful would have to support it because of loyalty to the leader and the party.

Finally, we get to dismember this bent party.

If the political arena is the voter's garden and we're the gardener - we're going in with the shears and the buzzsaw.

Fianna Fáil are not coming out of this election alive.

So.. fantasy football final FF TD count after the election? What's realistic? Low teens?

You are exactly the reason whats wrong with this country.

This line of "sure, arent they all the same" is FF propaganda bullsh*t.

The last time FG/Lab were in government, they left the exchequer with a surplus.

Can you imagine that under Charlie "if I've got it, I'll spend it" McCreevy?? You are a suporter of corruption on a massive scale.
