I havent had soil tests carried out on my farm before but with the increasing cost of fertiliser i want to make sure i am spreading the right stuff to get the most from my land. Perhaps it needs some lime also.
I am looking for advice from people who have done soil tests, in relation to 1. how beneficial they were (would they recommend it)
    2. who carried them out (probably be Teagasc i would be gettin to do it)
    3. cost to carry out tests
    4. the details in the analysis (such as nutrients the soil is deficient in and pH of soil).

Best money you will spend imo. Shows where P ank K too low and too high and where you need to increase pH to increase output. Teagasc are good but so are many other labs. I think its a sample to 10 ha if the soil type similar and management similar. I'm due to test again next year but afaik it used be around E20 a sample for PK and lime requirement

yeah €25/sample. Results will even show you recommended P&K for silage, grazing or cereals. My dad has done very little of it before but I've decided whats the point wasting money on fertilizer, have almost all the farm done last year and some more this year. Best money spent. Go for it

What results are you gettin for 25? Just K, P and pH? I would also like to know if it is deficient in Magnesium or sulphur. Is this extra do you know or is it part of it?

Good link that. Nearly all you need to know right there. It's a few years now since we tested and that link is a good reminder!
