    Hope someone can help!!!

Am considering buying the iPad as a gift and was wondering should I get the 64gb wifi or go with the 64gb wifi & 3G?

Any suggestions would be brilliant as I haven't a clue about this kind of stuff.

    Thanks a mill

The 3G means you can buy a data sim (like a mobile phone) to use the iPad if wireless is not available. Data plans tend to be around 20 euros a month.

So it is up to you. The iPad with the 3G will function fine without a data sim in it. Just will only work on wifi.

Thanks a million for getting back to me so quickly.

To be honest, I'd say he'll probably only use it at home so the 3G thingy probably won't matter then.........

And am I right in thinking that the bigger GB is the way to go???

    Thanks again :D

The bigger GB is really only a concern as far as storage is concerned.

I bought the standard 16GB one for my iDad as I call him now.
Sure, I've loaded a few albums, pics of the kids and grandkids and video on it, but he'll never fill it. He mostly uses it for surfing the net and buying stuff off ebay.

The man couldn't get to grips with my old iMac or a PC, but took to the iPad like a duck to orange sauce!

He had WiFi set up at home so it took a few seconds to configure. Be warned though - if you're setting it up on a Mac, you need OS 10.5 or later. I was stuck on 10.4.11 so had to get into work on a Saturday to rig it up.

Either that - or have the lads in store configure it.

You'll need a credit cad to set up the iTunes account (the card can be switched for itunes vouchers or deleted from the account once set up). You need iTunes for buying content and some apps.

If he already has his iphone synched to the laptop, will this interfere with it??

Nope, you can have multiple devices sync'd to the same iTunes. Up to 8, I think.

You dont really need a credit card if the first app you download is free.

I'm thinking if getting one from my Dad also.

Does anybody know if you can get a 3g sim that's 'pay as you go' rather then bill pay?
My dad will be using it abroad so I'd rather he got a Vodaphone SIM in Portugal so as not to cripple him with a roaming charge. A bill pay option wouldn't really make sense however as he will only be using it for a couple of months a year while abroad.

Normally he will use the wi-fi but if he can't get to a wi-fi zone then the 3G option will be used. If he gets the 3G version of the iPad however, I'm wondering if it's easy and straight-forward to switch between the wi-fi and 3G options, he's in his late 60's so I don't want him to have to do too much messing with connectivity settings and using data roaming when he thinks he's using the wi-fi.

Also the 3G version of the iPad has GPS while the wifi version has no GPS.
