Berlin born DJ, producer and label owner Ben Klock is without a doubt one of the most significant characters in techno’s recent history. A resident at Berghain since its opening in 2004, he has been able to leave his mark on the club’s unique sound, in turn the special space influenced Klock’s approach as a DJ and producer as well.

Playing techno sets full of hypnotic, deep and heavy grooves, releasing records on Ostgut Ton and last but not least the aesthetics of his own label Klockworks (founded in 2006), have earned him an excellent international reputation over the last few years. Supported by stringent and enthralling tracks, remixes for such diverse artists as Kerri Chandler, Martyn or Depeche Mode, the revered debut album “One” on Ostgut Ton and his Berghain mix, Ben Klock’s name is synonymous with the vitalization of an essential definition of techno.

His music is free of crippling nostalgia and rather wins you over with consistency, tension, and dynamics and time and time again with a sensibility, one would usually expect from house music. In this vein, Klock pursues an unexacting fusion of quantum jumps and tradition – including effortless melodies or hook lines. Being able to harmonize this method of industrial austerity, natural musicality and an impressive physicality is Ben Klock’s great art and skill.

And of course his monthly marathon sets at Berghain that escort all what’s being said with pure sound and consistently motivate Ben Klock to skip the trapdoor called routine.

Support on the night is from deep techno head Mark Drummond making his debut performance for the Bastardo Electrico label.

    Doors 11pm - Admission €12

Any cheap nice hostels in the area?

I haven't done a directory search but as a local http://www.bruhostel.com/ springs to mind... always very popular, great bar downstairs and the staff are really helpful.

the place shuts at 2am and the soundsystem in there is sub-par to say the least - and thats coming from a person who rarely takes notice of systems in clubs.

Was primarily suggesting the quality of the DJ and the set that would be played, would be worthwhile heading along to.

i just thought id let it be known - especially for anyone considering heading from Dublin as they're used to gigs going until 2.30 / 2.45.

Just as a matter of interest, what gigs have you attended there when the system has been 'sub-par to say the least'?

The in-house engineer is normally spot-on as he knows the system inside-out. Unless there was another engineer present in his place I sincerely doubt the system was in anyway sub-par. Fish Go Deep's Greg n Shane are long-time residents in this club and they for one have never tolerated sub-par systems..

As for the closing time, there is some degree of flexibility around the 2am close but in general this is completely beyond our control. Yes it is farcical and archaic but Dublin isn't exactly light years ahead of us by closing 30/45 minutes later..not really a huge difference.

As Eddie said, its the quality of the DJ and his set that are going to stand out here, not the time when you have to worry about going to the cloakroom..

I've been at two gigs in the past few months - Luke Slater & DJ Rephlex Records and I wasnt impressed with the sound at both of them. I just feel that if you're on the dancefloor the sound goes over the crowd and that its loudest up at the bar.

To me there's a huge difference in leaving a club at 2.10 as opposed to 2.45, but as I've said, I was only letting people know that places in Cork close at 2am on the dot - as I never knew that until I was down here.

I was at the Slater gig myself and yes its true that for the first half of the gig the sound was poor and many people were complaining afterwards. There was another engineer present that night though if i recall correctly.

I wasn't at the Rephlex night so I can't comment on that. However for most other events, including the nights we hosted Ben Sims and DJ Bone, the system was mint all around the club, as it usually is..

As for closing time, thats obviously a very personal issue with you but i don't think its as sensitive an issue with everyone else. I'd say something if Dublin clubs still stayed open til 3:30 or 4am... but 35 minutes less time isn't going to stop people from attending a quality gig in a quality venue.
