    Hi,

I want an advice about changing job. I work in a small scale IT company. Since it is a small scale company there are no specific rules about work and management practices. The working hours are also very harsh. I end up working til 8.30 pm and also on the weekends. Every day is stressful in the company and its like going to exams everyday. Bosses and managers are not very friendly or helpful. The mild talks are fake and slurs can be heard. Even at the lunch time I end up working or else long hours are expected. I spent about one and half years under this because of economic slow down. But not I am really sick and tired, I really hoping to change the job. But company is strict about attendance and tight deadlines are given for each task so I am kind of tied up to look for other job. If I look for jobs then I need to attend phone calls go for few interviews all this needs some excuses. Feels very hard to manage. The condition is can not look outside, can not lose this job and feeling highly stressed all the time. Affecting mental health, family life greatly over the last year. Even if conditions improve, dont feel the bosses will improve. Need some advice about the job market in software development (dot net) for a medium experienced guy, how I can manage things in my condition. I know few people curse me for giving excuses even if I have a job in these hard times. But I thought no harm in getting advice.

    Thanks,

    Atwal

    You called? ;)

Don't listen to the "lucky to have a job" bridge, no job is worth your health or mental well being

That being said, easier to get a job when you have a job so don't do anything rash yet.

I don't know anything about software but the IT threads around here are very busy.
You're in the right forum so you'll get more info soon enough

No job is worth being stressed and tired all the time over i know the feeling from the last job i had it was almost the same your work was never good enough for the managers and the deadlines where strict so strict you wondered how you would make em. Glad i got out of that place when i did never been happier

I don't know what sector of IT your in but maybe you could have a few business cards and leaflets printed up and try something freelance to get your own business off the ground if thats a route you would maybe like or as a previous poster said its easier to get a job when you have a job. My advice is to try not get to worked up and try and make a little time here and there to look for something else because believe it or not there is jobs out there (i'll prob be slated for saying that)

    Hi OP,

I just posted this in another thread:
Last year I walked from a stressful job after more than 4 years with the company. The guy I worked for was an obnoxious bully and I had reached the stage where I found myself breaking down in tears at the drop of a hat. With my application for jobseekers benefit, I enclosed copies of numerous job applications I had submitted as proof that I had been trying to find work elsewhere for a long time. I also included a two page letter outlining the stressful conditions I was under and why I felt I had to quit. I got approved for JB from the date after I left the job.

Providing your reasons for leaving are genuine and you can support it, the social will approve a claim. Especially in these tough times, they know people aren't just gonna up and quit to get a few bob off the dole. However, if you walk out on a job but can't give a good reason, then you're not entitled to claim for 9 weeks.
Not that I'm encouraging you to sign on but for me, it was the only way I could bring any money in while trying to find another job. It was by no means an ideal situation but it was better than destroying my mental health, and it was a big relief when I found out I had been approved.

    Hope that helps somewhat.....
