Fianna Fail: Never Forget

Now that the head rat has re-asserted his position on the sinking ship, it is time to re-assert feelings of contempt towards the S.S. Biffo. It is not only important that the electorate remember the amount of damage they have done to the country in the upcoming general election (whenever that might be) but also for years to come. People must remember this government's tenure as a reign of terror and they must be consigned to at the very least, opposition in government for years upon years.

If/When a Fianna Fail canvasser knocks on your door asking for your vote, they will spout out nonsense about how this was a global crash, about how it was Lehman's fault and about how other parties would have done the same. While the first two reasons have an element of truth in them, it is important to remember that they exposed us to the worst of it with the decisions they made. The latter is an argument that comes back every now and again and it should always knock it out of the park with the same proverbial bat: There is no basis in political discourse for what might have happened if circumstances were different. Unless there's a crystal ball at these Fianna Fail think-ins then they have absolutely no way whatsoever of telling what a different party would have done in power. It is paramount that we punish bad governance otherwise we will get more of the same.

I hope he doesn't mind me plugging this but Biggins has put together an excellent database of the mass wrongdoings of our government. For anyone who has not read this I suggest they give it a once over. It can be found here.

There is a real danger that this crowd could still come out of the election looking okay in terms of numbers of seats. Furthermore, they could even be back in government in a decade or less if people allow it to be forgotten exactly how bad for this country they have been. The information is out there for the electorate to educate themselves with, if they don't know it already. What is absolutely crucial is that we as a society never let them get away with this. We must constantly engage with the past to ensure that we do not make the same mistakes again. Do not forget what they did when you go to cast your vote but as well as that, remember it the next time, and the time after that, and the time after that. Remind your children who will also have to bear the brunt of their decisions. Spraypaint it on the walls, write about it, sing about it, do whatever it takes.

Suggestion : Print out multiple copies and follow the FF canvassers to every house, handing out a copy at each.

    .

I just took a quick peek but from the very first article linked about TD's and senators raises on the site :

"In a touching scene, deputies across all parties suspended hostilities and agreed to the estimates without a single objection. "

So its not exactly a list of FF wrongdoings.
