Any recommendations for the best places to buy tights, especially in terms of price vs. how many wears you're likely to get out of them. I've been needing to get new pairs for a while now, and I'm starting a new job next week so the worn out ones I've been hanging onto aren't going to fly!

M&S the best chain store, but Wolfords are my preference... though they are €24ish.

I get mine in Dunnes Stores, now, I have noticed after 1-2 washes they have faded slightly in colour and aren't as black/dark as they were when I first wore them, it could just be me though.:o

    Mine cost me €2.50 for a two-pack.

I find Penneys ones also good, 2-3 euro max.

The cheap multi packs in penneys are horrid, they give you the worst stomach, the more expensive ones are okay so far, but can't vouch for the longevity.
I got two pairs of navy tights about 3 years ago from M&S, and ones still going strong and looks fairly new (think my sister nicked the other pair), I tumbledry tights and all so if you want some longlasting I'd go for them. I'm starting a new job too and have a few new pairs unopened!

I'm a huge fan of Falke. Bought a few pairs in BT's. They've a nice band at top that doesn't cut into your tummy and they last, very durable and not a snag in any of mine 3 years on. Loads of varities. Love the 70&50 denier and they also do great toeless skin coloured tights, great for spring/summer time with peep toes. I think they are about 14. Toeless ones are about 9
    Ya can't bate 'em.

Can't vouch for M&S but heard they are good.
Wolford are quite good also, but the tummy band can be a bit tight unless your super toned (in my humble, soft belly opinion)
Only use Penney's tights when I'm wearing boots as I find boots tend to cause baubles in tights.

Cheapest I'd say Dunnes and Pennys, I'd prefer Dunnes though for longer wear.

I agree on the multi-packs in Pennys they're useless!

Another +1 for M&S I bought two pairs in a multipack today for 4.75 and the last me a long time. I love their skin colored tights in "illusion" :)

The pennys multi packs rip so bloody easily :( Dunnes tights I just don't like

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,729 ✭✭✭Acoshla

I always wear Penneys tights, not the multipacks, the ones that are about €3 a pair, find them great, good quality, comfy, they only rip when I pull at them which thankfully I have learned not to as often I used to :o

I bought the 120 and 200 denier last week, like leggings, brilliant!

    another M&S lover here :)

    M & S do ladder resistant tights. I love M & S tights

and the andrea bocelli ones from Dunnes are good too.

Has tabio been mentioned? Its amazing. Expensive but last years!

Best place to buy tights is without doubt the website worktights.ie ...saw them on fb ...I had always bought falke, but these are equally as good for half the price... they have a huge range of tights and hold ups in loads of different colours and deniers....

i got their 120 denier and 60 deniers in a few different colours and they were just fab.....my new fav site...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 272 ✭✭Loopie

For dark heavy tights, can't beat Dunnes, but for the bare legged look, I'm addicted to Bare from M&S in Sunblush (or is it Suntan...it's Sun something anyways). Give your legs a lovely tan, and look like you don't have anything on. Love them!! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,691 ✭✭✭Lia_lia

I love falke tights. Bought loads on sale in Germany, amazing quality! Very expensive normally though.

Tbh out of the cheaper brands I find Penneys to be the best. The ones that cost €3 per pair...the multipack ones tend to be hopeless.

    another vote for m&s!!!

the value pack with 3 tights for a fiver is brill!! they last for ages and they are a great fit!! havn't looked at anything else since these!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 101 ✭✭awesom_o

the tights from penneys are a joke
the feckin things rip when you put them on!!

I like topshop tights but I don't like the price.

    www.worktights.ie

Recommend! They are the expensive tights that last forever but they are cheaper than in the department stores. Very helpful staff (online) who'll get back to you quickly and they also stock hipster tights, my fave as I don't end up with a little pot belly that looks like a haggis when I'm wearing high waisted ones :p

I found m&s to go out of shape at the waist quite quickly and they bobbled easily

Really? I haven't had any problems with them, but I only have a few pairs (as I didn't need to replace em!!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,469 ✭✭✭Pythia

I get ages out of Penneys 80 denier tights. I find them really good. I know they are cheap but I prefer them to my Wolford ones. They never rip and keep their shape. I wear them every day in work so they get a lot of wear.

Yeah, they wore down quite quickly around the crotch as well, but that could be from wearing them under trousers in the winter!

Penneys thicker tights are really good, i get my black tights from penneys all the time. But if you are looking for tanned tights or something to that effect then the penneys ones are rubbish, they rip as you put them on. I find marks and spencers the best really.

I agree pennys ones are the business but not the multi packs the single packet ones- last a really long time and are very comfortable! Only thing I find is that I'm short and they are quite long!!

I wore Wolford's on my 21st. About 8 minutes in I had a ladder

I like Dunnes and Penney's for the plain black tights. Marks and Spencers oiled look skin colour tights are the absolute best in my opinion. I hate going bare legged, but then the occasion requires it, I go for these.

M&S hands down for black tights. I'd be lost without them.

Their nude tights are ok, but rip in the strangest places.

+1 on M&S opaques particularly the silky soft 50d ones, wish they did other colours than black tho.

Their sheer nude range are also great, the ladder resist 7d my faves, I like the matt finish and they last reasonably long considering how fine they are.

Pennys aren't bad at all (imho) for opaques either and they're the cheapest.

Have noticed Dunes have way bigger selection lately, but haven't bought any there in ages.

Falke I love, but pricey - you can get in Arnott's and online.

M&S for quality, choice and i've bought one paterned pair recently that have the best tummy control ever!!

Well for the tall ladies over 5'11, then stay well clear of M+S tights. All their tights only go as far as my mid thighs. Its so annoying because I hear so many good things about their tights.

You really can't go wrong with Dunnes and Pennys. Also, Debenhams own brand is reasonably priced and decent quality.

I'm 5'11 and I find them fine, just go for large/Xlarge?

Tesco, cheap as chip. I got some 140 d ones in red, black, grey and purple and I have to say they are the most comfy ones I have ever worn. Really soft and warm.
Also picked up 80 d which are also great. All wash well.

They then tend to be kind of baggy.

Ya I've got them in large and x-large but they still won't go all the way up. Im 6'1 though, with 34 inch leg, so taller than average.Still no such problems with Dunnes or Pennys.

I usually wear black tights, but recently got a dress that I need skin colour to go with. Problem is, I'm extremely pale. Anyone know where to find light colour tights? The lightest Penny's do still make me look like I fell waist deep in mud, as I don't fake tan and my skin is so pale it looks really weird.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 jamillia

Pretty Polly do a range, I think they are called naturals, they go very pale/light AFAIK. You can get them in some Tesco, online and the departments stores usually have them.

Also, mentioned before I think, but H&M do a 2 pack of sheer tights, seem to remember they do a very pale shade also.

I'm a Dunnes lover for tights. If you're looking for really thick, durable tights you could always try a "school supplies" shop. They do basic colours, and they tend to be really good quality!

Love pretty polly tights, really durable, which is great cos i'm a clutz, always end up ripping tights when i'm putting them on :(

I'm fairly pale too and hate fake tan, most tights look stupid on me because of my white arms! tanned legs and white arms just looks wrong but i swear by pretty polly tights, i can just about get away with the sunblush shade i think they're called, but they do a shade (possibly called nude) with is basically colourless, which just takes away that blueness you can get with really pale skin and covers imperfections. I usually get them in TK Maxx for about 5 euro :D

edit: I know you said you've tried penny's but have you tried penny's 'sunkissed' shade?, they seem to be really hard to find, always out of stock, but they're fairly pale when you can find them!

Anyone know where I can buy cheap tight on line? I recently brought some AMAZING Aristoc tights in Harvey Nicks for a tenner. Was hoping I might be able to buy them in bulk and cheaper on line

panda100 - What Arisoc tights were they? Lots of websites sell Aristoc, two I can thing of are:

    legslove.ie
    uktights.co.uk

But make sure to take postage and packaging fees into account, as well as foreign exchange on currency if the site is using £

Hmm, maybe try eBay? It's hard to Aristoc tights in bulk and cheaply online. I had an amazing Wolford pair that I bought in tk maxx and they last for two years of wearing them solidly before i had to bin them. Maybe try tk maxx?
