    Hello,

have recently given up cigarettes (3 weeks now , never gone longer than a few days in 10 years)

next battle is to lose a few pounds. i am 31 years old and weight just 13 stone and am 5 foot 9 inches so i am not in too bad shape. i would like to get under 12 stone though as that was what i weighed when i played a bit of sport years ago.

just wondering which is better to buy for someone who only wants to do a bit of basic exercise and hopefully lose some weight. i have also changed my diet for the last few weeks and lost a few pounds. i have done this before but only lost a small bit of weight. also if you could tell me a decent brand to buy, or point me in the right direction of where to buy the equipment it would be a great help.

i sometimes do a bit of walking, but the dark evenings and unpredictable weather does not make this very appealing to me.

    thanks in advance :)

    HI smiggy,

The only advice I will give you is to get something you will enjoy using! Lots of people buy treadmills or bikes and use them for clothes hanging.

So if you are going to invest go for something you really want to use.

oh and try and get a decent warranty, oh and if its a treadmill make sure you RUN on it (to make sure it comfortably fits your stride length)

    Hope this helps!!

if you are starting back then i would recommend the bike.

Why: well when you start back running it can be hard to keep motivated (if like me) you stop every half mile because your legs just arent used to it.

on the other hand its great to train and enter a race. could be a 5k or 10miler but feels great to have lots of people running beside you attempting different time goals.

With the bike you could sit on it for 20mins a day, even target a certain KM
distance to complete in 20/30/40 mins.

Mix it up: go regular pace for 5 mins, then 3 mins pick up the pace, then back to regular pace.

    best of luck!

thanks very much. may just go for the bike because i think it would be harder on a treadmill trying to get back into it and i could bet bored/give up very easily. also exercise bikes are alot cheaper so less of a risk really.

i have no interest in a gym really. have gone in the past, must prefer to do my own thing in the comfort of my own house. :pac:
