Just bought car - declaring off the road for last 3 months

I just bought a car off a buddy of mine. He imported a new car a few months ago so the car I bought has been sitting in his drive for the last three months.

I have just received the registration log book in my name since sending in the change of ownership form. I now have to get the RF100A form stamped by a Garda to declare if as been off the road since the end of November. Should I have gotten my buddy to do this before we changed the log book? Does it matter that I am declaring off the road in the time period before my ownership?

You don't have to declare it off-the-road. All you have to do is tax it from the day you bought it and fill in the previous 3 months as the "past owner period".

You only need to declare it off the road if you owned it while it was off the road. There'll be no repercussions for your mate.

Correct. You are only liable for tax when the car is under your own name :)
