    Well lads,
Shot a rabbit the other day. Seemed like a fine healthy specimin so I skinned him and brought him home for the pot. Did the usual wash out and soaked ia large pot of salty water over night as usual. When I drained the water off the smell was effin stink. I know they usually smell a bit but theis was so bad I had to use domestos to wash out the sink and drain.
I threw the rabbit out for crow bait after that.
Just wondering if i needed to throw it out or is this bad smell more common than I think.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Without seeing the carcass or smelling the smell.........
Very hard to advise on what to do on your description.

Did you burst the stomach at all?

No I'm pretty sure i didn't burst the stomach but I'm not 100% sure that I squeezed out all the pee. I reckon that must be it. As far as looks go it looked perfect.

A full bladder of pee would stink alright

Buck rabbits stink, i wouldn't eat one if you paid me, about 3/4 size just right. I went as far as cooking stew before with one, had to throw all of it out.

i know this is slightly off topic but three rabbits i caught last weekend were obviously feeding on beetroot because from their teeth to their arse was purple. . .even their flesh was pinker than the other ones.

Its not unusual for a bird or animal to pick up the tastes of what he is eating, a couple of years ago I shot a pheasnat around a piggery and when it was cooked the bird tasted lousy/vile. BTW only ever shoot "grazers" 3/4 grown rabbits, as my Father used to say that they were the ones that tasted best, Maybe there is something in that old wifes tale.:)
