I saw a funny one this morning. I was driving on the M6 and and a few miles before the toll plaza a guy flew past me with a Bianchi road bike on the roof of a Volvo V50 Estate. The bike was light green and looked nice.
Anyway, I got to the toll plaza a I saw the guy reversing out of the express coin basket lane with the height restriction. He must have just copped it on time.
    Priceless!!!

That's something I always worry about when I have the bikes on the roof, I almost chant it to myself so I don't forget when attempting to use the tolls or certain car parks.

Well I know somebody recently completely destroyed a carbon Speciailized S-Works Epic on the way out of Djouce car park on the metal bar which prevents caravans entering! He'd taken the bike down on the way in but .....! It's one of those things that seems kinda funny but could be a very expensive mistake and could happen to any of us!

I drive an estate with the bike on the roof. There's a couple of reasons, main one is to keep the interior clean as the pram and stuff is kept in there, don't want oil and dirt getting on that, or usually the boot is full of said baby stuff or dogs.

One of the 4 person teams in the Race Around Ireland had something of a set back this year when the car with the bikes on the roof rack drove under a low barrier. It ended badly.

    It is not funny.:o

I fcukin did it a few years ago with two bikes on the roof, it just completely slipped my mind. Bought a coffee in a service station and then decided to go into their carpark to drink it and relax. In under a barrier - oh sh1t!

The bikes were fine actually, but the roof rack warped and slid back, gouging the roof of the car - cost nearly 3 grand to put right :(

I've gone the tow-hitch route ever since because, despite the expense, there's no guarantee whatsoever that I wouldn't do the same thing all over again. - The bikes really are out of sight, out of mind up there.
