One of the peeps I worked with is having a problem with getting the lock nut off her Audi A3 (the threads are eroded). She is based out in Rush,Dublin.

Anyone got any suggestions on how to get it off? Or if anyone here could do it I'm sure she'd throw a few quid you're way!

The lock nut on the wheel is worn away or the locknut "key"?

My key was getting fairly worn out so I just went into the Audi dealer and got a new one. 20quid, not a question asked.... kinda worrying.

If its the nut itself, ive no idea.

Could you post a picture of the nut? If it's the type I think it is there's one sure way to get this off ... will explain more when I see it. Would do it for you but I think I'm bit too far away.

    2 options generally employed are:

    1. Pound a slightly smaller socket on and use this to loosen. Take the socket off before you get the bolt all the way out.

    2. Weld a new bolt to the head of the existing one. Let cool and loosen.

In both cases you will be replacing the new bolt.

This will work perfectly in this case.

Does the owner have AA cover? Think this is included.
If your still stuck later on I could call over and take it off for you after the traffic has died down. Total price 60 Euro - 50 Euro call out and 10 Euro for 10 minutes work.
