Refillable capsules for nespresso...

I have a nespresso machine. I find them quick and handy. Pop in your pod and you get decent consistant coffee every time.

However I miss being able to buy my own coffee and make espresso. I can use a french press but considering I rarely drink anything other than espresso that doesnt really solve the issue.

There has been numerous questions about this over the past year or so on here so I decided to try a couple of brands and give you my two cent.

I tested these on this machine. http://cgi.ebay.ie/New-nespresso-essenza-piano-black-coffee-machine-1-0L-/130473976095?pt=UK_HGKitchen_SmallApp_RL&hash=item1e60dae11f
These pods do not work on automatic machines such as the TK70 for example. They only work on the manual cheaper machines which is what most people have.

So I've tried a few of these refillable pods.

Nexpod - Gives a decent shot of espresso but I felt that it was going to break the machine after a while as the plastic was hard for the machine to break through.
Now the company say this isnt a problem and that it has tested the machine something like a thousand times and theres no issue but I just dont trust them. It feels very forced as the machine has to pierce the soft plastic shell of the nexpod.
10 capsules and 30 filters - ie its for 30 pods because you can reuse the pod 3 times using a different filter each time. Pod has to be cleaned out before next use kinda annoying as well.
Not great value compared to the ne - cap below.

ne-cap - Again gives a decent shot like the nexpod and doesnt have to be forced closed as much as the nexpod. Still a bit but not so much.
I had an espresso this morning using cheap €2 ground espresso coffee from Lidl and it still came out with a good shot. Going for another in a minute.
100 capsules for a tenner seems cheap.

Bottom line is neither is perfect. Both leave a bit of coffee residue also which isnt ideal.
I'll personally be buying ne-cap in the future. Its cheaper, it works better, no clean up like the nexpod.
This Dutch company seem to have hit the nail on the head for people who want to go cheap with nespresso (ie my Lidl example above I used to test it with) or people like myself who just want to use their own coffee now and then instead of nespresso capsules.

I'm sure hasbean wont approve but I'll be putting some of their coffee through this process in the coming weeks. Cant wait.

Fair play. I am sure any roaster would approve of what you are doing. I'll be encouraging some nespresso owners I know to invest in some of the ne-cap's so I can personally test the results.

are the ne-pods just 1 use?
form what I can see you take off the white sticker and place the aluminium cap on(are these included?). is there any reuse in them?

Yeah even get one of them to try in case you disagree with my testing. That said I just had another one there now (3 today so far) and it was damn good, and thats just the lidl coffee :)

I presume they are only 1 use because if you were to wash out the pod the sticky part wouldnt be sticky anymore.

I got 100 pods and as far as I'm aware 100 aluminium caps included. Maybe theres more but I aint about to count them. lol

Basically you fill the pod, take off the white part that covers the sticky part and put on your aluminium cap.

Stick it in like a normal pod and off ya go. Very simple in fairness.
