My name is Bryan Rochford, I am a student in my Senior Sophister year of a Single Honours Undergraduate degree in Psychology in Trinity College, Dublin. For my final year project I will be investigating normative influences on the driving behaviour of young males. If you are a male driver, between the ages of 18 and 28, I invite you to take part in this study. Participation will involve completing a questionnaire which will ask about pervious driving experience and specific driving scenarios. The questionnaire will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Participants can withdraw from the study at any time.

You may wish to place this post in the Muppified Modified Motors section.

    Might get more response there.

How is that? Do you think only young males drive modified cars?

That assumption..coupled with the crossed out 'muppified'(which I'm sure you thought was HILARIOUS) has just shown you to be a very ignorant person who likes to make retarded posts.
I'm not sure where else you were going with it..

Good luck with that though! ;)

    1. The OP is more likely to find drivers in the age bracket he mentioned in the muppified section. I didn't state the ONLY boy racers drive these monstrosities. If you read the post properly, you would see this.

    2. The term muppified isn't harsh enough to describe the pieces of rubbish driving around on our roads these days.

    3. MOST (not all) modified cars are driven by muppets and in a muppet-like fashion.

I am not sure why you chose the bring the thread off-topic, but please leave your personal insults out if it.

    Likewise,
Bitterly disappointed at my advanced years.

Good luck with the Survey OP.

There are some awful pieces of crap out there, with all kinds of random bits of plastic superglued to them etc. But I think you'll find very of few of these people take modifying cars seriously enough to go to an online forum and have in depth discussions with fellow enthusiasts and to share knowledge with their peers. Hence the modified motors forum is mainly populated by enthusiasts who know what they're doing and do it properly, or those who want to learn from them.

I think R&R is more your scene.
Why do you go into the Motors section to give out about 'dem boyracers?
Do you stand in your garden shaking your cane as they drive past?
Seriously, this is not where you should be.

Cheers anyone who did the survey. Sorry to those who felt excluded due to age.

I still need a lot more people so I'll try the modified motors section.
    Thanks for the advice.

Good luck with the survey OP.

Off-topic, why do the words pot, kettle and black spring to mind?

    Done, but a couple things:

Firstly, when I answered "no accidents" in one of the earlier Q's, it still went to the page where it asked "was it my fault, their fault" etc. If that's the case for everyone, it's going to skew your results.

Second, I see what you're trying to ascertain, but based on the person being surveyed, the questions will be pre-conditioned and you seem to have no way to distinguish between demographics.

For instance you ask about my driving habits, and then ask me to hypothesise how my parents, friends, and peers think in the same situation. But if I answered "X" for me, then I will be more likely to think around "X" in terms of the people I'm hypothesising about, largely due to social circumstances.

Which in itself is fine I suppose, but then you have no way of analysising the data based through variables such as geographic location, employment sector, etc. The only data that you will be able to disseminate will be based on education level (unless of course the goal of your project is to be able to say something like 'the more educated someone is, the better they are at driving').

But sure I don't need to be telling you your project! Good luck with it anyway!

    Did the survey...

Couple of points though, I was also asked for details for crashes even though I said I didn't have any.

    Cheers, that's fixed.

some very leading questions there. its almost as if an assumption is made that people in this demographic drive recklessly.

also a lot of stuff in there that people wouldnt know or remember.

I was completing it until a question asked about driving in the 'fast lane', then I quit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 Eliot_R

Thanks to all who completed this.

I still need a few more people to do it so if you have the time I would greatly appreciate it.
