Any thoughts on this guitar? Anyone have one?

I've been playing about a year and a half now on my dads borrowed guitar. So the time has finally come for me to invest! I played this today at a shop and just fell in love with it...although I have to admit, a lot of that came down to its looks..its just fricking gorgeous. :D I also loved its size, it just felt really comfortable and light. Its also more powerful than it looks and sounded great.
From the research I've done it seems to be a good guitar for blues which is really what I want to end up playing (getting there...s.l.o.w.l.y!!)but I also want a good guitar for old style country and the usual 4am party strumming songs.

I also played a Recording King RD-17 which to my (untrained ear) sounded better in that its a bigger guitar and sounded more "bassy". Anyone have this guitar?

Some reviews I've seen have talked about the Loar being a mid range (i think) guitar and how inexperienced players may overlook it because of this and look for a more lower end (?) guitar. Can anyone fill me in on this?

Any help would be appreciated as this is a big buy for me:)

Firstly, congratulations on getting the chance to buy your new guitar. I don't know these guitars at all but all guitar selection is subjective, put 10 guitar players in a room of 100 guitars and they'll all have a different perspective. If you like the guitar and it encourages you to pick it up and play it, well that's the one for you probably.

Have a think about what your goals are, what is your budget, and the type of music you want to play.

You've said you like blues, so do you want to strum 12 bar or would you like to learn finger style.

It sounds like the guitar is a smaller body, so it won't have the bass response of a larger body but will be comfortable to play and for blues will be ideal for finger style and playing at home. You'll need more projection if you were going to play out.

So my advice would be if you like the look of it, like the sound and you'll want to play more when you see it, buy it and enjoy it !

Where did you play the Loar? I was looking at these a while back but couldn't find anywhere in Ireland that sold them.

I played it in Maloneys in Galway. He has 2 in at the mo but is ordering more in by June I think he said :)http://www.moloneymusic.com/

@Bod1. Thanks for the advice and the encouragement!! Yeah i'm really getting into finger picking over the past few months and this guitar is perfect for that style I think. I played it again yesterday as well as the other one I had looked at, and in terms of comfort the Loar won hands down. It just feels right. Its only for playing at home so projection isn't a major issue plus I gave it a bit more whammy yesterday and it packs a punch (although the room is small so..)
I think I've also solved my worry about the guitar limiting me to a particular style...get another guitar:D Have been lent a regular dreadnought by a friend with a view to buy it if I like it. At least then I know if I just need to hammer out a tune then I have the right guitar for it.
