I thought Today was as good as any to zero up for new ammo.

I discovered that the ASE S5 has a drawback as a mod. It retains heat much longer than the reflex, so after a couple of shots the heat shimmer made anymore than 2 shot groups difficult.
    attachment.php?attachmentid=143997&d=1295377650

They are more accurate out of a 20" barrel than 125Grain HPS. They were a little lower so I adjusted for Height and have them a shade high @ 100 so bang on 200.

I'm putting down the heat retention on the ASE to the fact that it is smaller than the reflex, so has less surface area to cool it down.

What are about €40 a box??

And does the fox get deader with them????

It's hard the beat the American Eagle @€;12.50 a box.
9 outa 10 foxes say they prefer the American Eagle

If I get a chance tomorrow I'll try with the Reflex mod on.
I had the same issue with the ASE Mod heating on the .223 before, however on the .223 it took 10 rounds or more before she heated up.

It's to freeze again tonight so tomorrow should be an ideal day to test a bit of field Testing.

I want them for Deer and Foxes.
And I just like the rifle and ammo to be accurate as it takes some of teh pressure off me :D

Also the Drop of them is very small.

Test Barrel (24") Velocity (fps) / Energy (ft-lbs)
    MUZZLE 100 200 300 400 500

Why would you shoot foxes with your 308 when your .223 would do the same job better and at fraction of the price?

The rifle is just ideal not the calibre.

The .223 is longer so the light hits the ,mod/barrel also.

The other rifle is 20"+4" Mod Vs 26" + 4" mod

30" is just too awkward at night for me.

I have the lower MAG scope also on the .308 as 8x is a ig strong for low light in comparison to the 5.5x

i fire the 130 sst superformance out of a two seventy. they chronoed
about 3060 out of my 21 inch barrel and about 3020 out of a blaser
24 inch barrel well short of 3200. they shoot well i.e under half an inch out of my gun.
i am amazed at the terminal ballistics on deer. i have shot 5 deer with
them and 2 of the five have had 2 exit holes. massive damage i usually
use nosler 130 grain loaded by federal no comparison in terms of wound
channel and knock down power. i am amazed.

I'm getting similar results tack. I have the same 150gr superformance and I 0'd them after giving the rifle a full clean and got this result at 100y.
I fired 3 shots to get my eye in

    d6d01524.jpg
I let the gun cool for a min
Then I had a second go and got this

    22874531.jpg

Christmas toy boxes came in handy for something.

this is a result i got when i shot this young fallow at around 60-70 yards

a devastating wound with no exit, it completely bowled her over

    ed3e424b.jpg

the letterman knife is there to give an idea of the size of the wound.

    22efb6ab.jpg

earlier i ranged a raised a bit of ground at 770y and used a free ballistic app i got called (istrelok) to work out an adjustment of 20.85moa so i dialed in 21moa and i hit the sod bang on

    dad45622.jpg

i was able to find the strike as it was beside the only gap in the hedge

i am very happy with the accuracy of both the free app and the not so free 150gr sst superformance

Thats more damage than I was getting. Thats scary stuff. I struck a sikka hind in the base of the neck sunday morn the first exit was in spine back about 4 inches the next exit was back another 6. Didnt skin her yet I would say the damage is severe. Its hard to think that these are just normal sst's even though I never tried the standard sst before. The velocity increase with them was no more than 80 fps of an increase compared to what i normally fire. Every shot I took had at least one exit hole. Looks like they are 130 vmax rather than sst!
    .
Anyway I will be using them from now on, getting the animal down comes before meat damage as far as I am concerned, with this damage I cant even see a pumped up stag taking another step. I am definite I wll be proven wrong!!

she was facing the way you see her in the pic. i was aiming for the chest and she pronked forward just as i pulled the trigger. thats why the wound is so far back.
that hole is the entry. i blew her over and she was dead instantly.

Looks like major hydrostatic shock ,The superperformance sst are really living up to what every one was hoping for :D

I skinned the deer and found a small exit hole. I would say the core of the bullet kept going threw and out the other side.

zeroed the rifle with the hornady 308 superperformance 150gr the rifle was zeroed already for federal fusions bang on @ 100 with them.took the shot with the hornady and bang on 1.5 inches high cold bore @100 perfect windage and elevation ran a patch through the barrel to let cool went for a walk about 30min back to the zeroing point I use and bang on again.there is definitely a louder impact thump than the fusions.good start zeroed in two and ready to go.
