    Hi,

I'm looking for a recommendation for a tour operator for a Kilimanjaro climb and a 3-4 day safari in Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater. Any suggestions? We've got some quotes for the lot of ~€2,500 per person. Is this average price to expect or are there better prices?

    Thanks!

Hey, I hope to be climbing Kili early next year. I am actually looking at doing with Adventure Alternative. They have a price of nearly €1500 excluding flights for 2011. I didnt check the price for Safari as I wont be doing that...

I think this is OK as it include a few days accomadation in a lodge, everything you need on the mountain and the park and permit fees which aint cheap.

For flights, KLM have a flight from Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro International airport which. It should be easy to tack on flights from/to Dublin...

Sorry can't tell you any tour package related to your trip but your trip seems to be a good one. I would suggest you to spend atleast a week if not more in Serengeti, as it has loads to offer. It is a beautiful place & you might miss out on fun part as you are leaving early.

I hope to do the Macheme route and these guys itinerary is not as good as Adventure Alternative. The trek is one day less which is not as good for acclimatisation and you have to travel from Nairobi as opposed to Kilimanjaro airport. They are actually more expensive aswell...

You can mix and match with that crowd too. We found them fantastic. There are many companies to choose from though.

Kilimanjaro isnt as hard as people like to say :)

when we went some people started complaining about altitude sickness when we were 100 miles or so away because our guide said "we are at about 10,000 meters now, when he meant to say 1,000 meters :)
He told me later its a little game he plays on every trip.

And guess who was effected by altitude sickness on the mountain. Those very people, to a man, and nobody else.

The only advantage of going from Nairobi is that there will be more flight options to there which should mean cheaper flights. Out of interest how long was the transfer and how were the roads on that transfer?

As for acclimatisation, I think the more days at altitude U have before the ascent day on Kili the better. Its a 1300m ascent which is alot when your already above 4000m. If I can get an extra day I'll take it...

The main roads there are fine there. Some really bad roads tough in places.

I dont know how long the transfer was because we did killi in the middle of our trip. Went to Masai Mara, Serengeti, Ngoro ngoro crater, Lake Nakuru, Zanzibar, Uganda and loads or other places. Somewhere in the middle of that was Killi.
