I'm sure they'd be fine. Not bad value either.

Which branch are you thinking of going too? Try to go to one of the Atlas autoservice centers rather the the normal Atlas tyres.

Your car will get a full inspection and service based on the manufacturer recommendations and its mileage.

If you get in done in the Drumcondra branch it will most likely be me doing it:D

I can obviously only answer your question precisely with regard to my branch. In Drumcondra we have myself and the tech who would do all the service/inspections, diagnostics and mechanical/major work.
We have 1 young lad who does the tyre fitting and the workshop supervisor and another fitter who would do tyres, brake pads/disks, exhaust, shocks etc

I have a feeling you are leading up to something?

Just out of interest, what exactly is a technician? I always thought a technicia was a time served apprentice ie a mechanic? :)

It depends on the qualification, Have a look here for the latest recognised automotive technician accreditation. You don't need to have any mechanic qualifications to gain an ATA qualification.

    Here in lies the problem:(
ND I am not having a pop at you but I am of the opinion that anyone working on a modern motor vehicle should be either a fully qualified mechanic/ technician or an apprentice under the supervision of a senior technician and not as in many cases (not saying it is the case where you work) a guy who has a set of spanners and a haynes manual.
If you need your gas boiler looked at you call a RGI instaler/repairer,
If you need a house wired you need to get a reci Electrician to do it.
However any idiot (Once again not personal) can work on your airbag, abs, or electronic braking system to name just a few. This on what you drive your kids around in at 100kmh.unfortunatly it will most likely mean that some people will be killed due to incorect repairs before anything will be done about it. At witch time it will be too late for some.
Am I the only one who feels this way?

This is absolutely true of many tyre places and even many indy garages. However, you will find that any garage that your comments can be levelled at will not be registered with any automotive authority and are therefore not regulated. Atlas Autoservice are a SIMI registered and approved garage. We are also an AA approved repair center.

I didn't realise that you were SIMI members and AA approved. Are you
guys ashamed of these facts? Because I see no mention of this on your web sites. Or on the SIMI website

I don't run the place, I just fix the cars. The atlas website is quite poor if I'm honest. Our headed paper has SIMI and AA logos/approved on it and we get a constant supply of cars arriving on AA and autocheck trucks to keep us busy.

You sound like you represent just the sort of people we need to convince that not every tyre company turned service center is full of untrained muppets butchering peoples cars( and believe me, I know there is no shortage of them out there)

Captain Morgan, can I hijack your thread? Having never done it before, our Mitsubishi Space Star is long overdue a service, which according to the booklet should be a rather comprehensive one. Would a place like Atlas carry out the same service as an approved Mitsubishi dealership/garage and go with what the booklet says? There are things I could do myself like changing wiper blades, air filter, and so on, probably also changing the oil, for which I would like to avoid paying a lot as I've heard approved garages do. Most other things I would not be able to do so is there a way around this?

Your space star should be serviced/inspected every 9000miles with the air filter and spark plugs(if standard, some use platinum plugs) due every second service. So the service that is carried out would depend on your mileage and service history(if available).
Things like gear oil, timing belt etc could be due again depending on mileage.

If you don't know the service history then you should have a full engine service and inspection done and then keep the proper service schedules from there.

Again I speak only for me/my branch, I cannot say what way other garages operate.

The car was bought in 2003. It's been regularly serviced at the Mitsubishi dealership where it was bought at approximately 7k, 14k, 22.5k and 30.5 miles. It now has 47.5k miles so it seems I've missed one service in between. According to the Service Booklet it would need a lot of "inspecting" plus a number of changes (engine coolant, break fluid, fuel filter, oil...).

My question is: can a non-approved Mitsubishi garage follow the book, i.e. manufacturer specs or had I better take it to the approved one and pay the extra €€?

Am I allowed to ask Nissan doctor to pm a quote here?

I had my car serviced at Atlas Drumcondra yesterday. Went in on spec with another issue. I was there throughout and could see most of what was going on with the car.
I was very happy with the feedback from them.
I was impressed with the way they dealt with people and found them to be both friendly and profession.
I was also happy with price. 139 for the service, I got tyres also. I had been given the run around by another mechanic recently and on several occasions previously where I might have mentioned a bulb gone or another issue they were never addressed. Here they didn't need me to tell them much they could see for themselves.
I like to look after my car as I do a lot of mileage but it had been well overdue a service.
I have recommended them to my brother just today but he will be going to the Sandyford branch, so I hope he has as good an experience.

How did you come to that conclusion?
You know nothing about me, so how do you know what kind of person I am?

The way you tried to imply that indy garages are not up to the job and the way you tried to get Paul aka Nissan Doctor to lead up to this was just **** stirring

Believe me I Have nothing against Independent garages who employ qualified mechanics (like Nissan Doctor) to carry out servicing and repairs to cars.
I do however have something against Tyre centers and bogus garages who have no qualified staff doing such repairs at a fraction of the price of Reputable and Compliant garages be they Independent or franchised.
I asked the questions I asked to find out was this such a "garage" or not.
Nissan doctor has explained that he is a qualified mechanic which is fine, but far too many people feel that "Anyone can fix a car, sure I'll give it a go"
