How would I determine the wheel size on my car. I'm talking about the rims, say I wanted to replace them with newer / cleaner rims, how do I size them?

If this is a stupid question, I apologise in advance.

Your tires shoould have markings one of which will be R14 if they are 14" rims etc.

Yeah, I was thinking that alright Alan, but when I measure them, it doesn't mach, thus the confusion

Just to elaborate on that, it will be part of a code, something like 165/70/R14

It will always be in the format 3 numbers/ 2 numbers/ 'R' and then the size in inches.

Are they alloys or just covers?

If its the whole rim you are replacing you'll need the width if the tyre too.

Tyre should have the following on the tyre wall.

    195/60/r16.

First number is the width of the tyre/wheel

Second number is % size of the side wall in relation to the width.

Third number is the diameter of the wheel.

    dont measure them, full stop.
    use figured dimensions - 205 40 R17
17 being the size of your wheels in inches.

Not as simple as that lads!

If it's R16 then the wheel is 16" - that doesn't mean any 16" rim will fit! You have 4 and 5 nut wheels, different stud patterns and offset to consider. If your current wheels are stock and you want to replace you need the diameter, the width and the offset to get wheels that will correctly fit you car. In many cases you will fins some or all of this information on a sticker inside the door.
