My laptop died recently and im looking for a new one
Ill be doing a bit of gaming and cad on it so i want something with an i5 and a dedicated GPU

My budget is 800 max and i want to avoid hp laptops

any ideas?

i would be more comfortable with a dedicated gpu as i find the integrateds very limited

these are nice laptops - not sure how the graphics card matches up though.

Is the HD5145 1GB better or worse than the HD5470 512MB?

Firstly I wouldn't buy ASUS there not great for laptops, and did you not look at the one on saveonlaptops.com a few post up, its way better than either of them and in the same price range. It's a Toshiba. It has 2GB more ram which is 50% better for the sake of a few quid. And the graphics card is a lot better, and will play games a lot better then the other two.
If you were going with either of the other too anyway they would both play games fairly decently, I'd say HD5470 is a good bit better, and it will borrow extra ram from the main ram anyway so the difference in ram between the two isnt much.

I find Asus have very good specs for the price.

This laptop was recommended by another user on a separate post and its a few euro over your budget but you get an i5, and dedicated 512MB GDDR3 Graphics

hey -i've got a mac book that has apple care for four years. I won it on a competition and never even opened it and it's worth approx 1400 i think. i'd be willing to sell it for anywhere near a grand. i can check specific details when I get home if ur interested...

If you are into gaming the toshiba's screen resolution is much superior also which makes a big difference.

unfortunetly my budget has been reduced to 700 at the max so i just want to know if an i3 would be any good for gaming or is there an amd alternative i shoul look into
