Hi. Car is a 1.4 golf 2002 99,000 miles on the clock.
Having 2 issues with it that maybe someone here can identify.

First is fairly worrying, when car is moving, very occasionally the red oil light will flash three or four times and beep, and the rev meter will go to 0. This lasts for about 5 seconds then the light goes off and the yellow engine warning light appears and car will be sluggish accElerating. Once car is turned off and on it accelerates fine. Any ideas what this could be?

Second issue is when turning the steering wheel either dire film, and only at extreme angles of turning I hear a popping springy noise three or four times through the turn. Only happening recently.
Any advice would be much appreciated .
    Thanks

For the first issue have you checked your oil levels are ok?

1st Issue.... Check your oil level and clean out your throttle body, they get all bunged up with dirt and cause the engine to run pretty bad. Probably best to get the fault read with an OBD meter, any Mechanic should have one. Give you a much better idea of whats wrong.

2nd Issue sounds like your CV joint needs replacing.

    1) 1.4 golfs give a lot of oil related problems..the flashing red light and beep means low oil pressure.. it can be the pick up pipe in the sump gets blocked with sludge and starves the engine of oil = not good.

    2) sounds like a sized bearing in the top mount of one of the front shocks. you would need new top mounts and bearings..

the joint cost me about 60 quid, but i got a freind to put it in, so im not sure how much the labour would be. when the car is stationary, lock the wheels to the left or right (in order to see behind the wheel) and look for a black rubber springy cover that covers the cv joint and is attached to the wheel. if it is broken or cut in any way then dirt will be able to get in and foul up the cv joint. good luck
