It's dreaful...avoid at all costs, one episode was enough for me, horrid dialogue, horrid acting, unlikable characters, seems to be a carbon copy of the UK pilot....but severely watered down and "Americanised", it's vomit inducing dialogue will have you rushing for the "next" button.

I won't torture you any longer. Ken Tucker hates it....wise man: http://watching-tv.ew.com/2011/01/17/skins-mtv-snooki-jersey-shore/

Have you seen Being Human yet? It's pretty bad too. It's strange that only Showtime were able to pull off a decent conversion of a UK show.

Strange that they seem to carbon copy the show apart from one thing, they changed max to a girl, really stupid as he was a great character & it was great to see a show showing gay gay with straight male friends & how they get on with each other.

    They also removed the nudity...Boo!

    Did anyone watch this?

I was baffled. They used the script practically word for word except switching British slang with 'American' (if that's what it's supposed to be ) slang, changed out 3 character's names for no reason, took out Maxxie altogether, and changed maybe one or two things about how the story unravels (how Sid meets Cassie, or in this case, how Stanley meets Katie), filmed it practically shot for shot, and made Cassie not just kinda nuts, but an absolute psychopath who embalms hamsters, and dumbed down the humour.

I just.. I don't even know what to say. I thought it would be bad, but this was just woeful, and normally I'm really, really open to remakes and don't compare them to the original, but this remake made that completely impossible considering it tried so hard to replicate the UK version.

The actors were just awful. Just completely impossible to empathize with.

I couldn't find anything redeeming, I was so disappointed! I can't believe Brian Elsley's name was attached to this!

Has anyone else seen it and if so, do you have any comments?

Ratings are in, 3.6 million....that might sound like alot but consider a new episode of Jersey Shore was it's lead in, JS getting over 8 million....in that context it's not good + without the JS lead in it'll fall further.

I just can't see the American kids taking to it.

Maybe this will be the final nail in the coffin of americans stealing quality tv from across the pond that doesn translate without completely ruining it...... hah who am I kidding, i suppose i can dream though

I really enjoyed the English one in the end after a rough enough start... I'm actually afraid to watch this, considering what they've done to Shameless recently, and The Office (which I didn't mind for the first season or 2, but it's terrible now)

The PTC are idiots!!!....they'll just whip up more publicity for the show, MTV are loving this...just like what happened with Jersey Shore. They never learn, if they kept their gobs shut it would disappear, plonkers.

Yup...this is Jersey Shore all over again, advertisers pulled out of JS early on, but now....falling over themselves, MTV execs. are rubbering their hands with Glee (ratings) right now:

To be fair, the Shameless remake is damn good so far!

Yeah the Shameless remake is by far the best UK-US conversion, with the Office following a close second. Being Human and Skins were never remade. Nope. Never happened. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Well don't worry. Its not like they're gonna be around forever. I mean, read this.

The fact that they're complaining over an already censored version of the show makes the whole thing more hilarious. It just seems America just doesn't have the balls to take raunchy programming (except for premium cable) for fear of losing sponsors or moral support.

Just finished watching the first episode. And baring some name changes and changing maxxie to a girl and changing the script to make it more american, it's a carbon copy which on my first impressions didn't translate well.

Subway pull out now, that's five!....MTV are LOVING this. I'm gonna be all over the ratings for episode 2, it'll probably jump up at least a million:

I find it brilliant that the TV Watchdog want the Senate to actually look into aspects of the programme. As if they don't have anything better to be doing. All this bad publicity is bound to make a few more million people tune in.

I had no idea MTV had remade this until the US press started going ape about the content so they may have just shot themselves in the foot by giving it so much publicity. Some of the articles are hysterical. I've only had a very vague look at the programme itself but it seems to be tamer than the UK version.

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...haha!!!!!, ratings carnage for Skins:

    http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2011/01/25/monday-cable-ratings-pretty-little-liars-being-human-pawn-stars-rise-skins-falls-more/80131

    http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2011/01/25/without-new-jersey-shore-skins-loses-more-than-half-of-its-audience/80176

I am genuinely stunned!...i really thought it would go UP....not lose HALF it's audience....but i'm pretty giddy about this :-)
The controversy did not work for MTV....maybe the audience aren't that thick?...or the show really is just crap!

Hmm, the second episode seems to have deviated from the UK version (I.e. It's not a word for word rehash.) which is a good thing. The first episode just didn't work and it's no surprise that half the people that saw it decided not to bother watching it again. It's early days yet. I'll reserve my judgement until around eepisode 5 (if it makes it that far)

Well. i think tonight will tell all about the fate of Skins, if it falls again i doubt we'll see a second season, but will MTV air all the episodes?....considering they are losing $2 million an episode in ad revenue?

    I'm on ratings watch :-)
