    Hey, Any ideas appreciated.

Put the TV to standby last night with the remote. Came back an hour ago to find I couldn't turn it on(no response/no picture/reaction at all. Other things on the same extension cord work so I thought it might be the plug fuse, but I changed that & still no better. Any ideas.

Take it back if less than 2 years old and you have a receipt.

    New TV time then.

There are few real TV repair people left. It costs too much compared to replacement cost.

    In 1970 a really good wage might have been £80 a week and a new TV 21" £400, that's about £2,200 or €2,700 in today's money.

That's why you don't get stuff fixed any more. Including overheads, excluding parts a guy would need to take over €1000 a week to be poor fixing TVs.

You'll get a nice 42" HDTV compatible with Irish Digital for 1/2 the real cost of what a 7 year old 32" Philips cost then.

I know how to fix them. I couldn't make a living at it though.

No worries, got my sister to put the word out on her single mothers support network. I'll get a replacement tonight.

Now we're out of the Celtic Tiger rubbish, repairmen will hopefully come back into fashion as we try to get the most value from the items we purchase.

Who will pay 100 Euro to get a €30 DVD repaired?
