I recently stared using o2 broadband student deal 10g for €10.00,happy days!!!before this I had been with 3 for over 2 years.
I recently recieved my bill from 02 and it is €84.00, as I went 4g over my cap.
In all the time I was with 3 I only went over the usage once!!
I don't downlaod films or music, the only thing I really use the internet for is watching vids on youtube, facebook, boards, hotmail and my college website.
My daily usage would be no more than normal so how is it possible that I could be recieving a bill for this amount????

    Confused and dissapointed 02 customer:(:confused::eek:

Man they are gangsters. I had an absolute nightmare with 02 and had to change back to my old network. They lied, stole, and basically they are scum. I'd beg anybody considering using them, DO NOT!!!!!!!!
Check out the complaints boards on them -- utter thieving scumbags

Youtube and vidceo usage in general can mount up pretty quick, feel free to install a usage monitor other then depending on the O2 software. Another usage montior you could use is netmeter.

As for Geoffrey Wilcox's post claiming that O2 lied, stole and were general scumbags, tbh this type of post is meaningless without any solid details and actual proof. I could claim O2 stole my house and damage my car but its nonsense without proof. The claim of being lied to and being robbed is pretty big tbh

O2 as the same with any provider who charges for going over the cap I'd recommend monitoring your upload carefully, what some people view is average usage is fair above the "actual" average usage used by the vast majority of a ISP's customerbase.

I'd personally view say 1GB a day as pretty average but if you apply that to actual stats its not the average usage at all, instead its much lower.

ive recieved quite a few sobering bills from o2 over the last few years. highest one i think was just over 200 euro. i have to point out that i never monitored my usage, untill recently that is. once i keep an eye on it and make a effort to stay under the limit the bill is never more than 20 euro. i have never suspected any wrong doing on their part, just carelessness on my part. the charge for going over the limit is pretty horific but thats what you agreed to. i didnt complain because i never bothered to read the T&C. i just keep an eye one it now and have no problems.

I borrowed my brother o2 MBB seen he was away, it was getting near the bill date so i decided to use all his allowance. He's only used 2gb, so i downloaded 12GB more in one night (keeping under the 15gb limit). Just before i gave it back to him i checked his bill on the o2 site, €68 over because his contract was only for 10gb:o
I phones them up, was very polite (unusual for me) explained my error, told them he usually only used 1-2gb every month and a one off mistake can easily be made. I pointed out that the over usage charges are a "fine" to stop people taking advantage and slowing down other people connections, but in this case he normally uses very little and it was an honest mistake. The girl went to speak to her supervisor, arrived back and said " that no problem, we'll remove those charges".
I couldn't believe it, i have a tendency to "go off" over things like this. I really think the only reason she allowed it was because i was very pleasant. I must try that again, who would have ever guessed that being nice works to customer service staff :p (tongue in cheek)

Just to play devil's advocate; I use an O2 pay as you go mobile broadband sim (20 euro per topup) in my laptop and if anything I'm pretty sure they're under-counting my usage. I've only 5GB for 30days usage, and sometimes it'll tell me only 2 or 3 GB used when I know for a fact that I downloaded / uploaded more than that. I suspect their counter is not very good at measuring the bittorrent protocol, or perhaps it something to do with the HSDPA modem in my laptop.

But yeah Youtube vids will kill your download allowance. A lot of youtube content is being set automatically to 720p, with higher quality audio too, so a 15 min vid could easily count up to 50mb. If you set it to 1080p that's going to be up to 100mb. Watch 15 minutes worth of Youtube video every day for a month and thats [reaches for calcuator] 3GB already. You need to keep an eye on the usage counter on their site.

Back in September I started with the o2 student broadband too. When I got my first bill it was €20 extra.
In the o2 shop they looked at my account and was told I had been sent texts to say I was nearly over limit. Of course never got those texts because for some annoying reason my text service does just not work. Rang o2 to set up online account and was told by some narky woman that I should have been more careful.
Also as I think has been said, don't use the programme you connect in to monitor usage because it is just lies!!!

Unfortunately next year I'm going to have to stick with o2 because my flat mate has meteor broadband and he says it is just dreadful and I can't afford vodafone!!
