Just how difficult is it to actually register a company?

What is involved, what is the story with VAT registration and so on. Would it be better to get an accountant to do the work or could it be done by the person themselves.

    Regards,

    Paul

Do you want to register a limited company or register a business name?

If you're going down the LTD route it's worth getting assistance / advice from an accountant (or solicitor)

i would stay away from accountants or solicitors for the minute.. was in business for good few years and them lads will break you before you have a penny made..you need to register your business with the c.r.o which cost 20 euro in 2006, not sure if its still the same.. any money you lodge into your account from business put 20% into a seperate account..to cover vat and income tax. most business go into it blind as in regard to vat and income tax, so be careful from day one and make sure you put the money aside cos when you owe them boys money they are like legalised criminals in my opinion..

    Hi Paul,

Are you looking at a LTD company or a sole trader?

    Hi Paul,

One thing you need to think of is why you're starting the business. Is it worth the hassle and money of incorporating the business if it's not going to be a massive going concern. The other side of the coin is that having a limited company limits liability (bit of a tongue twister there alright).

For a lot of people this can be a clincher; limited resources can tie your hands.

Well, I would prefer to go down the ltd route. It would look more professional and I would not be personally liable should anything go wrong.

I have done a lot of research in the last few days. The sole trader route seems fairly simple to set up.

Would anyone here know much in relation to setting out the "articles of association" for a ltd company?

    Paul,

As i mentioned in my PM to you, the best option for Articles and Memo of Association is to go to a company formation agent. Do a search online.
