Question about playing DVDs

    Hi there
I’m not very ‘with it’ regarding technology. But I really want to play DVDs on my laptop and can’t do so. I can play my CDs on it no problem, but can’t do the same with DVDs. The following message comes up on my screen when I insert the DVD:
Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer. Now, I can ignore the message by closing the window, and then the press ‘play’. Then, I can see the images, but I can’t get any sound. I’ve gone into ‘sound’ on the control panel, which informs me the sound is working perfectly etc (when it isn’t). Anyway, if anyone can suggest to me what to do to rectify the problem, that would be much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance.

I've found that Windows Media Player isn't the greatest when playing DVD's. (Have you tried to update it? What version do you have. Go to Help and About and it'll give you a version number).

I'd highly recommend using VLC player. Has everything you need.

+1 for k-lite I've never had a file I couldn't play after installing it..and media player classic that comes with it is good too tho if you want more features VLC will supply more than MPC

as everyone said here get k-lite and it will play your dvd's in WMP but if you still have problems download VLC as that will play anything thrown at it
