    Anyone have any experience with the charolais bull Major? Thinking of buying a bull by him. Have no experience with the charolais breed except for two bought in charolais calves on cows which have turned out much better than my angus calves as i had an angus bull. Would you think a bull by him would be hard calving etc compared to other charolais??

    Major (MJR) is very hard-calving, in the bottom 3% of the Charolais breed.
    See for yourself;

    If the dam of the bull was by a very easy calving bull, then he might be OK. What's the Dam, the mother of the bull by?

    That's what the figures say anyway!

    I see..I don't know what the dam is by. I think the seller said that he was averege calved though. I have mostly AAX cows along with a few lims and simms that are 3rd and 4th calving. I wonder if he would suit?? Also have 10 AA heifers that I was planning to put in calf to the same bull and half them calving around 3 years if I bought him. Maybe he wouldnt suit this job??

    Thanks for the reply by the way.

    I have never used Major on the pedigree cows, he was too expensive and the calving figures. I'v seen good stock off him.
    As Pakalasa stated you would need to see the maternal line.
    In relation to your heifers; there are very few Charolais bulls I would use on heifers, unless a Charolais that had demonstrated calving ease.
    In your position I would inseminate the Heifers to an easy calving bull, depending on said heifers, maybe a Lim like REQ or FL22 for example.
    No reason though why you couldn't use Charolais on your cows, but if you don't have experience, I'd be looking for an easy calving one, like for example Pirate or Nelson, on paper anyway!
