Contemplating a career change... From Sales, to where?

I've been working in IT Sales for about 8 years. I think my cv is pretty impressive as its been 4 years in two of the biggest and most respected companies in the industry - first hardware, then software - with solid progression in each during those years. I was in pure sales roles, then specialisation - but now I have moved to a slightly different role more business development & relationship management. I'm getting bored of sales, I don't want to be a salesperson for the rest of my life plus my strengths are more in people, organisation, creative work, project management etc - than just trying to sell people sh1t they don't want.

I'm wondering what might be a good move for me going forward? I'm not looking for a total change, just something more suited to my strengths and my interests. Basically my passion is social media & anything to do with web technology - when I'm slacking off in my current job I'm usually browsing blogs like techcrunch, mashable and arstechnica. I'd love to do something in that area. Thing is, I'm used to the salary in sales and not sure if I can get similar in a non-sales role. Although I would like a sales manager / team leader role - but its tricky to get them unless you get promoted internally, which is next to impossible where I am now.

Any comments or suggestions anyone has would be appreciated. Should I go and see a career consultant or something? I'm just not sure where to start looking for someone who has expert knowledge in these areas.

    All advice appreciated
    Thanks
