I know some one with a 03 Renault Laguna 1.8 petrol with about 155k miles on the clock. several problems but it's tickin over now (albeit with various noises and rackets and a general sense of instability when driving.) I don't think it'll get another 10k. Although it did have an engine rebuild at about 130k miles so that might keep it going for a little bit.

The electronics have started to fail a little now also and the radio and AC don't work at the same time and I think there's issues with the drivers window going all the way up!

How long do you guys reckon it will last? I see it as a ticking time bomb!

The badge on the front and the model on the back may have a big impact on that answer ;)

Apologies, can't believe I omitted that!

    It's a Renault Laguna!

Most modern cars should do 300k without an engine rebuild or too many unscheduled visits to the garage.

    Renault Laguna excepted.

Worst car on the road. No matter what any of those Renaultophiles say, they are dirt alright.

As someone who has driven one a few times, I cannot agree more.

I know of a few people who've had them and they're almost all done for now.

I learned to drive in a VW Jetta hatchback (ancient it was) and whilst on holiday took a photo of it passing 200k miles in 1999

Good care and history means a lot to most cars.

Sort of a how long is a piece of string question really, catastrophic engine failure within 20k of a proper rebuild is not likely. THe drivers window and the radio not working aren't show stoppers anyway.

Had a 03 Laguna(120hp diesel) and I have to say it was a great machine. Got rid of it in Jan 07 with 184k miles on it and that was because the turbo gave up, never had a problem with it other than tyre pressure sensors! In my experience, most modern cars will run decent mileage if they're looked after.

Would question rebuilding an engine though, expensive option!
