Wont boot, flashing line top left corner?

I have a packard bell tm97 laptop, was working fine earlier today, shut it down and now wont boot. It gets past the packard bell screen but then all that comes up is a flashing line in the top left corner. F8 wont get it into safe mode, at the moment im running ubuntu from a cd. Windows 7 came installed so i have no cd to…

I have a packard bell tm97 laptop, was working fine earlier today, shut it down and now wont boot. It gets past the packard bell screen but then all that comes up is a flashing line in the top left corner. F8 wont get it into safe mode, at the moment im running ubuntu from a cd. Windows 7 came installed so i have no cd to boot from.
Please help!:(
