Is Boards.ie becoming a substitute for real life friends in this facebook age?

Just curious are we becoming a more virtual community? I am currently watching the late late thread with allmost instantaneous updates. I love it but i just wonder are we now becoming people who update on FB rather then pop in to your best mate or ring them. Just a random thought :)
    its all good

What's the difference between texting/ringing someone and sending them a message over Facebook? Both are methods of communication.

Why would you "pop in to your best mate" just to call Tubridy a bell-end?

Within a 15 mile radius it's a journey worth making.

I'd walk it in Joe Duffys case.

I can "pop in" to see anyone, but the wonderful strangers of boards probably would call the guards on me (as would I). I see boards as a way to expand my social circle :)

No, it's not. Not really. A lot of people would become real life through boards. I know I've met some great people from here in person.
