Hi guys! Just found this forum so apologies if this has been asked before. Myself and a friend are hoping to go to Italy this year, early summer :) We were thinking about Naples and Sorrento, taking in the amalfi coast as well. Now the question I have is How far away is Rome from Naples, cos Id love to spend a couple of days in Rome, then go to Naples, but is that do-able? Would it be longer to get from Rome to Naples than is worth it? Hope this makes sense, but would be great if anyone could advise me please!
    Thanks in advance :)

romes about an hour by high speed rail, double that if you are thinking of driving or taking one of the slower cheaper regional trains that do that route

very easy to combine rome and naples, in naples itself there is a special train that travels south to sorrento etc called the Circumvesuviana

Rossie 1977, thanks a million for the reply :) thats fantastic!! High speed rail sounds great, and if it's as short a journey as that, it's fantastic!! I kinda figure t'd be a nice time to go to rome as well, not to touristy at that stage. Im getting all excited now!! :D:D

    Hi
Last summer i flew to Naples, didnt stay there, got rain to Sorrento ... beautiful. Great place to do trips from. Went to Capri and Pompeii. Absolutley LOVED it. Spent 10 days on Amalfi Coast then got train (2hrs) from Sorrento - Naples - Rome. Spent 4 days there. All very easy to organise and and SO worth it. Def the best holiday I ever had and the most beautiful places I have evr seen!!
    Enjoy :)

My partner and I flew to Rome last October, spent 3 nights in Rome, took the train to Naples, spent one night there which was adeqaute in my opinion and then spent 6 nights based in Sorrento. From there we went to Capri, the Amalfi coast drive, Pompei and Heracleanum.

It is absoloutely gorgeous, a fantastic trip, very easy to organise by oneself. If you any more info just holler!

    Hi Fattybumbum

I would be interested in taking a holiday like this. Did you do it on your own. Also where did you stay hotels or hostels etc and how much was the cost overall of the trip

    Cheers
