Lactose Intolerant - Milk alternatives

Firstly - Mods I'm not looking for medical advice!

Secondly - I think I may be lactose intolerant (not anything major). I think this because I anytime I have milk on it's own (without cereal) I get stomach cramps sometime after. Depending on how much milk I take the severity of the cramps differ but it's not usually really bad.

Anyway, I've tried Soy Milk but hated it. Are there any realistic Dairy Milk alternatives?

I don't tolerate cows milk all that well but seem to okay with goats milk and lactose free milk. Lactose free milk just has the enzyme lactase added to it which enables us to be able to digest cows milk.

Agree that soy milk tastes like cack (the unflavoured one anyway!!), and soy isn't all that great anyway so no loss there. There's also rice milk, oat milk, almond milk - all available from most tescos and most health shops.

There's also coconut milk, not the canned thick version, but there's a litre carton that's made sutable for cereal, milk, tea etc. It's nice. My local Dunnes have it.

I thought had IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) until I caught this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8V81uwYDa0Q
Turned out I too had mild lactose intolerance. Well worth watching as the symptoms are similar!

There are many different kinds of soya milk and it takes a while to find one you like. I would suggest trying a few different brands and sweetned and unsweetned versions to find one that you like. As with all new tastes it takes a while to get used to.

Alternatives are rice milk, oat milk, almond milk, hazelnut milk but all of these are quite expensive unless you make your own.
